On Saturday Brighton residents and a coalition of supporting groups, marched through the city to launch the ‘Brighton Says Yes’ Brighton Community Plan - a practical proposal to keep people seeking asylum, safely housed in Brighton & Hove rather than forced out of the city. The Home Office has given no indication of where they will be moving to, letters stating vague locations like “To the North.” 💬 We spoke with Maria*, who is currently residing in the hotel, on what Brighton means to her and what the implications of moving to an unknown location are. Her story really highlighting why not knowing where you are moving to can be extremely dangerous! Some residents have called Brighton home for 3+ years and have built strong roots and safe foundations here. It is inhumane to expect people to up and leave to live somewhere where they will need to start all over again. What can you do to support? 🛏️ If you have a spare room, you can list it with @refugeesathome 🏠 If you have an empty property you can get in touch with @thousandfor1000 💛 If you can, donate to the fundraiser which will support people with rent and living costs (link in T4K bio) ✊🏽 Share, join or learn more about the campaign (link in bio) 🌞 Brighton Says Yes! *name changed to protect identity *in collaboration with @inlimboexhibition and @esmeducyoung #brightonsaysyes #refugeeswelcome #loveoverhate

📣 BRIGHTON SAYS YES - CAMPAIGN PLAN LAUNCH📣 Our refugee neighbours are part of our community - we will defend them! The Home Office wants to force refugees out of our city. This month they plan to close the hotel where familes and single women seeking asylum are being housed. People will be scattered to unknown destinations including towns where refugees are being attacked by far-right racists. These are our friends and neighbours. They feel safe here. Some of them have been here for years, have given birth to children here, become part of our community. #antifascist #migrantsolidarity #brighton #community #antiracist Brighton is antifascist and antiracist. We will push back against racist hate and the demonising of refugees. Take action now! Tell the council to publicly support our campaign and pressure the Government “City of Sanctuary” must mean more than words. For more info, and to join the campaign, offer a room or join the fundraiser: brightonsaysyes.info

📣 Did you cross the Channel in a small boat? Find out what data was collected about you. Migrants’ Rights Network is researching how drones, surveillance aircraft and AI towers are used on people crossing the Channel. We know it is used to help prosecute people. We do not know how far it goes. We are looking for people who crossed in a small boat from 2018 onwards to make a Subject Access Request (SAR): a legal right to ask for copies of the data an organisation holds about you. MRN will support you through it. ✅ Registering your interest is not a commitment 🔒 Confidential and stored securely 🌍 Info in 11 languages 👉 Register: link in bio 📧 borders@migrantsrights.org.uk ➡️ Please share with anyone who should see this ✊💜

The Immigration and Asylum Bill poses serious risks for migrant communities in the UK and will push people into abuse and exploitation. It's vital that the proposed Bill includes a safe reporting clause so that victims can report crime safely. 📢 Migrant Rights are Workers Rights: March and Community Gathering 🚶🏽‍♀️ March with us + rally 📆 Saturday 10th October 📍Assemble on Albert Square, M2 5PE @ 12pm On Saturday 10 October, migrant workers, migrant rights organisations, trade unions, communities and supporters will come together in Manchester for a National Solidarity March for Migrant Workers’ Rights. We are marching in Manchester — the Prime Minister’s political home and the proposed home of “Number 10 North” — to bring our demands directly into the heart of the Government’s political project. 🐝 At a time when the Government’s proposed earned settlement model is creating fear and uncertainty for migrant workers and families, while existing immigration policies already enable severe exploitation and exclusion, we are taking a clear message to the streets: 📢 Migrant workers are here to stay. There are no workers’ rights without migrants’ rights. March with us. Bring your union, workplace, organisation, friends and community. 🍲🥗🍽️After the march: Join us for food 👥 Community gathering and food from 2:30pm. DM for location/details ☕️⚽️ As well as food, we will have drinks, games and space to connect with neighbours and comrades from across the UK. You are welcome to come just for the gathering if you cannot make the march, or come to both. ✅✅ to give us an idea of food numbers, please email if you or your group are attending: migrantworkersmcr@proton.me

FINAL PUSH: Help us get 10,000 signatures to Andy Burnham! Andy Burnham has committed to ending rough sleeping. But his Government continues to push forward their earned settlement plans. Plans that will make more people homeless and put tens of thousands more children in poverty. We're expecting an announcement on the plans any day now. This is our last chance to get our voices heard and these devastating policies scrapped. Tell Burnham to bin the earned settlement plans - comment 'bin the plans' and we'll DM you the link.

🚨URGENT: Support Ebrima! In this #SherwoodSquawkCommunity episode I unpack the hidden "10-year route to settlement" - a costly part of the UK's Immigration system that traps young adults and many others in endless cycles of financial and legal distress - yet very rarely talked about in the mainstream media. Every 2.5 years, for many young people who grew up here since their early teens, they are forced to pay thousands in fees and are locked out of higher education (official Home Office policy for not allowing early ILR), treating them as temporary residents in the place they call home. Meet Ebrima, he's just turned 21 years old and should be focusing on building his future. Instead he's stuck in this system and we're trying to help him as well as raise awareness about how the UK treats young people within the immigration system, a system that over the next four years will demand at least another £8,000 from Ebrima and others like him until he is able to pay and apply for settlement in 2030. We need your help to raise the funds to help him submit his next application safely and on time. 👉 DONATE TO THE CROWDFUNDER: (link in bio too) https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/qr/4nB8m71l?utm_campaign=sharemodal&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=shortlink If you or anyone you know is impacted by similar circumstances or you has any immigration or nationality queries, you can contact me via email: info@1sa.uk or WhatsApp: 0330 043 1334. Note my immigration practice is a fee paying service and all funds raised from this campaign will go directly to Ebrima's costs for the submission and management of his application only, in strict compliance with regulatory obligations.

❗️DON’T LET THE GOVERNMENT SOFT LAUNCH EARNED SETTLEMENT, then steamroll ahead, without scrutiny. Changes on Earned Settlement have been quietly moving through different mechanisms. It is not law yet, but people are reorganising their lives around it. As Labour Party Conference approaches, we predict that government may try to push Earned Settlement via a Statement of Changes, bypassing public inquiry, and our say, entirely. Settlement should NOT be “earned”. No one should have to prove their worth to belong, constantly working to 'earn' settlement only for the rules to shift beneath them. The government must SCRAP earned settlement in its entirety ✊ 📩🚨 Use @jcwi_uk's quick-to-use tool to email your MP NOW, link in bio 🔗 We must make noise, before the conference season ends mid-October. The time to act is NOW. Urge your friends, your community, everyone you know, to write to their MP, canvas, spread the word. The more letters they receive, the harder it is to ignore us. 👥 📣 – This call to action is led by the Not A Stranger campaign, campaign member @mariac_phd with support from JCWI and Migrants’ Rights Network (MRN). You can find out more about the campaign and get involved via the Not a Stranger campaign page on the MRN website. #ScrapEarnedSettlement #HandsOffOurNeighbours #NotaStranger ✊🏽

📢 The proposed expansion of Campsfield will now go to a public inquiry, where you can help us stop it. The Home Office is seeking to expand Campsfield immigration detention centre from 140 to 400 places. The Crown Development Application will now be examined at a public inquiry starting on 6 October, which will run for up to five sitting days. A public inquiry is the most formal way a planning application can be examined. It means the evidence behind the Home Office’s plans can face detailed public scrutiny: evidence can be examined and challenged, witnesses questioned, and individuals and organisations can ask to participate. 🗣️ You can get involved. You can ask to speak at the inquiry as an interested party, for around three minutes. You do not need legal or planning expertise to contribute. To do so, email crownapplications@planninginspectorate.gov.uk by midday on Friday 2 October. The Coalition to Close Campsfield has also been granted Rule 13 status, allowing us to submit detailed evidence and cross-examine witnesses. If you have relevant lived experience, legal, academic, planning or other expertise that could strengthen our evidence, get in touch before 25 September (DATE CHANGE) at contact@closecampsfield.uk or message @closecampsfield. Swipe through to find out how the inquiry works and how you can participate. Stop the expansion. Close Campsfield. End immigration detention!
