Tomorrow night! 6-8 pm ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ Please join us at Gavin Brown’s enterprise in Harlem for the next iteration of Dismantling Injustice, a multi-issue criminal justice-focused series, centered around the voices of those who have been directly affected by the punitive and racist NY criminal injustice system. The series will provide a space for these individuals to publicly share the work they are doing now to promote transformation and healing.

José Díaz and Marvin Mayfield of the writing group Lives in Transition will be reading and sharing original works. Five Mualimm-Ak, a solitary confinement survivor, prison reform activist, and founder of the Incarcerated Nation Corporation, will be reading an excerpt from his piece in the book, Hell Is A Very Small Place. Another selection from Hell Is A Very Small Place, written by Billy Blake, who has been incarcerated in solitary confinement in a New York prison for over 30 years, will be read on his behalf. Victoria Phillips, a mental health professional, invisible disabilities advocate, social justice activist, and poet will facilitate the reading and read some of her poetry. Copies of Hell Is A Very Small Place will be available to purchase. All proceeds will go to the Campaign for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement (CAIC). There will also be a Lives in Transition publication available--all proceeds go directly to the group. #criminaljustice #criminalinjustice #fucktheprisonindustrialcomplex #poetry #livesintransitionnyc

I want to thank my sons who are brave enough to travel and speak about family and Incarceration and how it has impacted their lives , far too often we don’t think of a family being damaged by Incarcerating one person but the impact is to the family in a whole . My thanks to the social cultural Analysis at @nyuniversity and @drkirkajames who grounded the conversation and moderated the event ✊️✊🏿✊🏻✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼Together #WEmakeCHANGE

POETRY IS REVOLUTION: A Night of Readings. This FRIDAY 12/1 from 6-8pm. While our exhibition "The Spirit of the People Will be Stronger Than the Pig's Technology" sheds light on a moment in history when Poetry itself was declared to be Revolution, we look to the poets of our time for clues as to how poetic consciousness can be a platform for resistance, self-transformation, and forging new bonds of connection.
