WEKFEST LA | RECAP PART 2 Jason’s well known EG was the only other car showcased in the booth. He has supported me since the beginning - both my business and building my EK9. He was the one who actually found the car. We thought it would be a cool idea to have it completely Spoon themed - a look he’s never fully done. We did a detail project with Gyeon on this car that I will post later. WEKFEST LA | EK9 DEBUT RECAP 🏆: Best Honda of the Festival This was my first Wekfest and the first show my car has been entered since HIN LB ‘00 where my turbocharged ‘98 Prelude was in the Atomic Performance booth. I want to thank the entire Wekfest team and judges for choosing my car for such an important award. With the incredible level of Hondas represented in LA, I am extremely grateful and honored to have been selected 🙏 The past 3+ years of this build have been quite the roller coaster, especially integrating a nostalgic Honda build into my work and family life. There were many ups and downs, but once the dust settles, nothing makes me feel the way this EK9 does in its “finished” and functional state. To everyone involved in this build - I can’t thank you enough for your time, talent, and inspiration in helping me build my nostalgic dream car. Special thank you Kenji at Greddy for executing the part of the build that was most important to me, tying a nostalgia-inspired race engine into a Spoon build based on a time capsule condition EK9, and make everything flow and perform so perfectly. Who knew that paint correcting some of the nicest JDM hero cars would inspire this build 😜 Wekfest has consistently raised the bar in terms of car quality, and I am glad that this was the event to debut my EK9. The team at Wekfest have been supportive of my build and this process since the beginning, and I honestly can’t thank them enough for their support. Lastly, thank you to the Gyeon team for really pushing me outside my comfort zone with the YouTube content and the final push to enter this show 🍻💛💙🩵

The most necessary photo dump from the past week… Yasu’s new EK9 for him to cruise around in when he visits. Added a couple new upgrades to give it that Osaka flavor… Traded a set of Mugen Active Gate brakes for this Mugen Twin Loop exhaust and cut off the resonator… First-ever Exceed V2 lip for the 96-98 Civic landed Wednesday afternoon… Probably the lowest mileage DC2 Spoon Cluster in existence as of today… 🎵“Got a sweet Asian chick she go…”🎵 Nevermind that’s dumb. Jajangmyeon with Nana on a random night when we actually had time to have dinner together… Been sitting on this pair of Mugen S1 seats for a while now, and no I don’t really care that much about having the matching rails… Thank you Chuy for letting me use this for a weekend… $50 S2000 with $150 Mugen MF10… Gotta give love back to the ones that contributed… Found this Kakimoto GTZ1.0Z muffler in the trash at Exceed and brought it back home as a display years ago. Time to put it to use… Had to call @bbymole to make it happen 2 nights before show day… @obeast_speed_shop always coming through in the clutch… No more HKS exhaust with the extreme angle under the control arm. Kakimoto is nice and tucked away and it is a screamer… The every day cars getting some much needed love with a wash… Shop hangs because we finished early and stressed-less… Big car show guy now… Alternate universe Mugen set-up on my EK9… Wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for @jdmwong… Never thought I’d see the day when Yasu and I would have EK9s in California… Nana dipping in the S2000 too… FIN.

Little Tokyo Motors x Sleepers Speed Shop Last Friday, Bowls LA hosted a pop-up to welcome local Japanese American car builder Len Higa, owner of @sleepersspeedshop, to Little Tokyo. It was an opportunity for local car enthusiasts to hear more from Higa—his work, the stories behind his builds, and the details that define his iconic style. To us, the pop-up felt like a mashup that was a long time in the making. @bowls is no stranger to the LA car community. After moving beyond Honda Ruckus builds in the early naughts, Bowls has embraced a broader, more fluid automotive lifestyle identity. Today, the shop sits somewhere between retail space, clubhouse, gallery, and cultural outpost, with rotating vehicle displays that give people even more reason to walk through the door. Higa also cut his teeth with two-wheeled Hondas, hand-forming aluminum parts and eventually building custom, award-winning café racers for clients. His design aesthetic—subtle, inventive, and hot-rod inspired—eventually influenced the Porsches he builds today. It’s California cool in a way that nobody else does it. Parked inside Bowls was a long-time friend of Sleepers and centerpiece of the capsule: @dpk_jared’s tastefully modified 1989 964 911 Carrera 4. Its most recent addition, a SSS dimple-vented deck lid, was on full display on the car (and in bare metal as a wall installation) for everyone to check out up close. More people continued to show up throughout the night, bringing everyone out onto the streets to talk cars and enjoy being amongst friends. Project EF is getting the royal treatment! 👑 We brought in Donovan to protect the Seibon carbon fiber hood and rare headlights on our ’91 Civic Si. With the recessed channels and raised sections of the hood, getting the film laid down clean takes some serious attention to detail. Now everything is protected from rock chips, UV damage, and everyday road wear. Back at it again with Project EF, and we’re getting closer to hitting the streets! 👀 Huge shoutout to everyone in the community helping us bring this build together. Here’s what’s new: 🔴 Carbon ZC Hood Big thanks to Sean at Seibon USA for donating this ZC replica hood to complete the look. The ZC hood features its signature right-side hump to clear the engine setup, giving it a slightly different look from the SiR hood. 💡 Euro-Spec Headlights Freshly wired and ready to go. We went with the Euro-spec glass lenses instead of the JDM plastic lenses to avoid yellowing over time. A little cleanup and PPF and these should stay looking fresh for years. 🔧 Custom Suspension Huge shoutout to @jdmwong for donating a fresh set of Tein SS coilovers with custom valving. 🏁 JDM-Spec Rear Wing Installed and bringing the whole rear end together. Project EF is coming together fast.
