Discussing the Design Process and the importance of my Garden Journals.

Each projects unique ideas are generated, and can be lost over time. The Journal helps keep them together.

After the landscapers build your design, questions about plants, irrigation, and maintenance will arise. The journal becomes a reference guide, long after I am gone.

Garden Journals are unique to each project and allow the owner add to it as needed.

Thanks for following my work.

Watercolors in the middle if the night. The creative spirit doesn’t keep office hours and doesn’t care much for office music.

I always enjoyed the design process for this traditional Arts & Crafts business. We went through the smallest of details for complete authenticity. Welcome Home!

End of the year, and another sunset. The cold weather sets in on us and the animals living in the landscape.
Textural Plants, like evergreens and grasses, can give the eye a glimmer of hope during the cold months. When possible, avoid cutting back perennials and grasses until late winter/ early spring, to allow habitat and foraging for our tiny animal friends living outdoors. They always need all the help and resources they can find during cold spells. And it gives you a reason to go outside, later, after cooped up indoors all winter.

A garden is a wonderful way to engage with the outdoors and meet new people. Earlier this year, I planted a scented rose from David Austin Roses for a couple in the middle of a full rehabilitation on a beautiful old home. It made sense to plant the new rose next to an existing shrub rose. Since then, the rose is taking to her new bed while the nearby old home becomes new again. Life begins anew, which leads to me consider the importance of process. Process, as in the evolution of change, and the importance of it. So when I recieved these pictures, it is wonderful to see the Rose exhibit beauty inside and out!

Hundreds of design hours were spent developing the proper curb appeal for this Williamsburg Colonial home. No detail was left to chance and I believe it shows. Hopefully you agree!

Collaboration with creative clients is one of the most enjoyable aspects of design. This shady pocket garden has taken a life of its own with art from @claudiatruekc and sculpture from @myrnaminnis The design is full of texture and color. We used a rare Japanese Maple to anchor the arrangement. It is a Happy Garden!

To answer a common question: What is the difference between a Landscape Architect, Landscape Designer, or Garden Designer? These professions sometimes have other names as well. The most obvious difference is the scale, or size, of the projects being designed. There are advantages and disadvantages to each category, depending on the work required. Some professionals may disagree with my assumptions and that is fine. It is an attempt to help people understand which level of service is best for them. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Nightscapes create interest and intrigue to any outdoor environment. The night light options have grown to include a wide variety of colors, patterns, and creative installation techniques. Some systems even allow temporary Sporting themes (@chiefs or @kcroyals )to be programmed into them via Smart Phone Apps!
