POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

“Some people just need someone to talk to. When I was there, I want to say that less than 1% of callers were in active crisis.”

While volunteering at The Trevor Project, Jeffrey Masters learned countless heartbreaking truths. Perhaps the saddest was that most of the people on the other end of the line weren’t in immediate danger. They were lonely.

Through every conversation, Jeffrey witnessed the power of simply being there for someone. At the end of the day, we all need connection. We all need people who make us feel seen. With every call he took, Jeffrey hoped he could help someone find the courage to make one more call of their own.

On this week’s episode of Wide Open with Ashlyn Harris, Jeffrey shares with me what he’s learned about loneliness, belonging, and why listening can be a life-changing act.

We all remember that one kid who wouldn’t stop asking “why?” What happens when that kid grows up? For Jeffrey Masters, “why?” or “why not?” is the most important question he can ask.

“If someone says, ‘I really don’t want to answer that question,’ I have no problem saying, ‘Oh, why not?’ I think when people get to explain themselves, they might feel more comfortable.”

This master interviewer has found so much depth in a simple question. It’s clear in his conversations that his guests feel heard, not appeased, and seen, not exploited. In a world of gotcha journalism, that is becoming increasingly rare to find.

Check out more of this incredible conversation featuring the host of LGBTQ&A, Jeffrey Masters, on an all-new episode of Wide Open with Ashlyn Harris!!

Some days, no matter how hard we try, our personal lives bleed into our work.

Jeffrey Masters, host of the hit podcast LGBTQ&A, has spent years sitting down with some of the most influential voices in queer history and entertainment. But even someone who helps others tell their stories isn’t immune to life’s hardest moments.

“Life doesn’t always allow us to feel our emotions. We still have to show up to work.”

In this raw and meaningful conversation, Jeffrey and I explore the weight of carrying other people’s emotions while trying to make space for our own. We talk about resilience, boundaries, creating relationships, and what it means to keep showing up when life feels heavier than usual.

WELCOME TO PRIDE MONTH! We’re kicking off with LGBTQ&A Podcast. Nominated for Outstanding Podcast at the GLAAD Awards, Jeffrey Masters weekly interviews the most interesting LGBTQ+ people in the world.

LGBTQ&A was created in 2016 in order to document modern LGBTQ+ history: to get beyond transition and coming out stories, to get to know each person, their accomplishments, their failures, and how to they got to where they are today.

To celebrate Pride Month, we made a selection of episodes that give a glimpse of Masters’ work since 2018 to today. Have a look on the podcast website or youtube channel to find all the episodes! Episode 1 today features the incredible Rufus Wainwright.

And thanks again to @lgbtqpod and @jeffmasters1 for letting us air this amazing podcast!
