Turf games 2026

What a great day! Energy wise, but also we were so lucky that the heatwave eased!

Some members of the team had more experience, while for others it was their very first competition.

Regardless, we couldn’t be more proud, everyone worked so hard and we are excited for the future!

A short reflection on seriousness and play.
On imagination, culture, and the things we often dismiss as not useful enough.

It explores how change is shaped only by policy and evidence, but by story, feeling, and the kinds of practices we allow ourselves to value.

Written as an open inquiry rather than a conclusion.

If imagination builds futures from what has already been lived, then the question is not only where we are going, but what experiences, stories, and timescales we allow to shape our imagination now.

I’ve written a reflection on deep time walking, deep ecology, and how practices that stretch our sense of time can change how we relate to responsibility, care, and the world we are helping to create.

This piece found me on walks and daily wonderings on a high ridge at the southern edge of London.

It’s now live on Substack.

What a Saturday! 🔥
Our second Badass Games delivered exactly what the name promises — heavy lifts, loud cheers, big energy, and personal bests flying everywhere.

The atmosphere was unreal:
People pushing their limits, teammates shouting for each other, music pumping, and the kind of buzz you only get when a room full of determined humans decide to show up and give everything.

Whether you lifted, supported, or simply came to soak in the chaos — thank you.
This community is something special.

On to the next one.

🌱What if farms had the tools and insights to grow not just crops, but also flourishing landscapes and communities?

📖 'From Surviving to Thriving: A Pocket Guide to Life-Centred Practices for Farms, Landscapes, and Their Stewards' holds a curated selection of regenerative practices designed to reconnect people, farming, communities, and nature.

🌳 Inspired by the collaborative Roots and Rhythms Project, this work is about transforming our mindset and culture, changing how we interact with ourselves, each other, and the natural world. Our goal is to help grow guardianship of our landscapes and foster thriving ecosystems.

🔍 What's Inside?
The guide is divided into three parts, each offering a range of practices to support your connection with nature, community engagement, and creative exploration:
— Rituals and Routines: Establish daily practices that ground you in nature.
— Convening and Engaging: Build strong, collaborative communities.
— Imagination and Doing: Foster creativity and innovation in your approach.

🚨 The urgency for transformative action has never been greater so please share with or comment at anyone this might resonate with.

📥 Download the PDF for free or purchase a printed copy at the link in bio.

🖍 This guide was a collaborative effort, developed in partnership with the living systems and beings of @lopemede_farm, farmer @eddierixon, ecologist Dr. Emma Gardner @ukceh, communications designer and art director Heather Knight @arteri_studio_, project lead George Simons (Ruleo), and me as design lead (GET LOST).

Our reflections on the Roots & Rhythms project continue with a new article on Substack (link in bio). This time, we dive into the "Exploring" stage—where we mapped the complex web of life at Lopemede Farm, identified potential innovations, and uncovered beacons, blind spots and questions to guide us forward.

Special thanks to Natalie Ganpatsingh @nature_x_nurture_, Miles Richardson @findingnature_, Alayne McDonald, Patrick Andrews @patrickandrews29, James Vaccaro, Alison Rickett, Max Girardeau @thevisionariesuk, Phil Greenwood @sacredearthland, and to @faithinnature_uk, @commonland4returns, @blueearthsummit, @riverford, and @healrewilding for their insights and leadership.

We’re eager to connect with others who share our passion for land, community, and creativity. If our work at Lopemede Farm resonates with you, let’s connect and see how we can support each other's efforts.

With care and wild wishes, on behalf of the Roots & Rhythms team.

Over the coming weeks we will be posting a short series about the Roots & Rhythms project process on Substack. In these posts, we share insights and learnings from each stage of the project, documenting how a life-centred approach reshaped our relationship with land, community, and nature.

In the first post, discover how we began with intentional connection, shared vision, and a commitment to a life-centred approach at Lopemede Farm. Find the link in our bio.

We’re eager to connect and learn from others who share our passion for land, community, and creativity. If our work at Lopemede Farm resonates with you, or if you have experiences or challenges to share then we’d love to hear from you and explore where our paths intersect.

With care and wild wishes on behalf of the Roots and Rhythms team

BRIEF 01: How can we represent and include the voice of future generations in education?

Thank you to Julian Ellerby, Design Strategist for posing this question. We’re looking forward to sharing our work-in process and getting stuck in to this big question this week. Watch this space for this and more briefs we”ll be looking at very soon.

MYOM “Why did you choose to set this?”

Julian “Our current systems, ways of thinking and definitions of success are plagued by shortermism and inadequate in the face of the many simultaneous crises we are faced with.

If we can incorporate a long term or long view into education (all education) could this better prepare us with the tools and approaches to create a positive future for people that aren’t even born yet rather than burdening them with a broken planet.”
