I went to Sonoma thinking it would be about wine.

But what stayed with me had very little to do with what was in the glass.

It was the women.

Women who are still figuring it out.
Women building something from nothing.
Women learning to trust their voice in rooms that don’t always make space for it.

And somehow, in that space, there was no need to compete, no need to prove.
Just presence. Just honesty. Just quiet strength.

It made me realize how many of us are walking our own version of this path.
Working, questioning, rebuilding, growing... often all at once.

And maybe that’s what this journey really is.

Not becoming perfect.
But becoming more ourselves, step by step, even when it’s uncertain.

If you’re in that space right now, trying, learning, finding your way —
you’re not behind.

You’re in it.

And that’s enough.

Somewhere along the way, we’ll meet ourselves there.

Grateful to the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas, for creating this space, all the master sommeliers there guiding us and to Sonoma County Winegrowers, Drops of Sunshine, Hamel Vineyards, La Crema, Ferrari-Carano, and Foley Family Estates for your generosity and support in making this experience possible.

This March felt like it was beautifully bookended by two powerful experiences centered around mentorship and women in leadership.

At the beginning of the month, I traveled to Hong Kong for Rise to the Table, an incredible initiative by @rosewoodhotels and the Rosewood Foundation. Eleven women from around the world were brought together for a week of meaningful mentorship, connection, and growth. In an industry where women make up so much of the workforce, but far fewer leadership roles, creating intentional pathways for future leaders is essential. The depth of conversation, perspective, and generosity in that room was unforgettable.

I closed the month with something equally close to my heart, the Women’s Sommelier Symposium, an event that I created in partnership with the @mastersommeliers_americas This too brought together eleven extraordinary women, all on the path toward deeper expertise and leadership in wine. With only about 11 percent of Master Sommeliers being women, it is not a statistic I have ever been comfortable accepting. We can hope for change, but hope alone has not moved the needle. Building community, mentorship, and access might.

Over two and a half days in Sonoma, we shared knowledge, challenged one another, and created space for honest conversations around exam prep, leadership, and work-life balance. Surrounded by inspiring female Master Sommeliers and leaders across the wine world, the experience was both grounding and energizing.

What struck me most is this: whether or not each of these women chooses to pursue the Master Sommelier title, they now have something just as powerful, a community.

Mentorship, and giving back to the profession I love, is as much a gift to me as I hope it is to those involved. I feel incredibly grateful to have spent this month with 22 brilliant women whose futures I will be cheering on. I already think of them not just as mentees, but as part of a lasting legacy, and as friends.

Power of Love Gala 🙏🏼
possibly my favorite event of the year for not only the wonderful philanthropic advances Larry Ruvo and his team at the Cleveland clinic do for Research in brain health. Dom🥂 is served throughout the evening & Southern Wine & spirits do an incredible job in picking Wines to pair with Chef Wolfgang Puck & Charlie Palmer's amazing cuisine. Amazing running into my girlfriend Jennifer who is a Master Sommolier, are an inspiration. 🙏🏼

Had the privilege of attending the Power of Love Gala in Las Vegas, marking 30 years of Cleveland Clinic's charitable endeavors. Honored to support The Larry Ruvo Center's dedication to exceptional care. Michael Meldman received the Community Leadership Award, and the evening featured phenomenal food by Wolfgang Puck and exciting silent auctions. Great to catch up with friends and enjoy Kenny Loggins' concert. Also, notable performances by Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon, Gavin DeGraw, and Richard Marx. Even Rita Wilson sang a few songs. Oh what a night!
