For our third single, “Asphalt,” we had the pleasure of collaborating with the amazing artist Jenn Ruff. The cover is based on her work “Weather Up.”

Jenn is a film editor, video artist, and collagist from New Mexico. Her work consists of hand-cut collages, found objects, and salvaged materials. She combines old and new elements to create images that speak of chance, connection, and the stories hidden all around us.

It’s the last week of HOW WE FIND HER, my exhibition of moving image projects (2008-2026) at @stukleuven in Belgium. If you are near Brussels or a train ride away, please try to come before it closes. 3 rooms of film, video, sound, and collage works that deconstruct biographical forms, deploying the life and resonance of the late French actress Maria Schneider as methodology.

Credits: First of all, @stukleuven, an amazing and ambitious art/sound/dance/performance space in Leuven, Brussels, with a super pro team.

Over the years, I’ve collaborated with extraordinary actresses, @manal.issa.pro , @aissamaiga , @isabelvsandoval and @hoffmann_gaby , and incredible filmmakers including my amazing producer @helenolive of 5a7 Films, always editor @jennruff, sound designers @lucienrichardson and @Abigailsavage, cinematographers @bassem Fayad and @pascalemarin_dop , production designer @valerievalero, researchers @oliviacreamer, @daniellashreir and @charlottepotot. Colorists @jeffsousa, @mathilde. Also @laraabutsaifan for her producing Manal Issa, 2024, in Beirut under insane conditions. And many more!!

Thank you to @stukleuven curator @karenverschooren who refused to think this was too ambitious a show, to @participantafterdark and @katekraczon who allowed me to keep developing The Listening Takes beyond any of our original conceptions. And deepest thanks to @manalissapro, for all her brilliance and bravery.

Saying goodbye to 26 tomorrow…this has been one of the hardest years of my life, I lost one of the most important people to me, I surrounded myself with friends and family, I made a film with my aunt and our wonderful friend, I traveled, I grew a lot but still have so much more growth ahead of me…thank you to the people in my corner, I love you all so much, thank you for keeping me afloat ❤️

The urgent and haunting words of Manal Issa continue to make the festival rounds, in Greece (next week), Italy, Lebanon, The Netherlands, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Columbia, UK, Australia and the US. Thanks to all involved and especially @manifest_pictures for taking such good care of our film.

“It’s really a big responsibility to act.” Lebanese French actress @manal.issa.pro’s beautiful words on acting, voice, politics, and how she healed by making “Manal Issa, 2024.” So deeply grateful for our collaborations. Last screening today at @idfafestival

MINNEAPOLIS FOLKS! Excited to be in residence at @walkerartcenter later this month. Friday Oct 24: Minneapolis premieres of my last two films, both featuring Manal Issa, who will be joining us remotely from Beirut for a conversation moderated by the wonderful curator/writer/filmmaker @alia_yman. Saturday Night Oct 25: Walker Art Center curator Pablo de Ocampo and I tracked down a very rare copy of Mehdi Charef’s 1992 film AU PAYS DES JULIET which features Maria Schneider in a role wildly different than the ones she’s known for. Also: Saturday afternoon I’ll be presenting earlier projects and obsessions in conversation with @pablo_oto at @dreamsong.art on Saturday afternoon. Please share!

Superior is streaming on @mubi This is one of my favorite set photos, taken right after we filmed the final sequence of the movie, so much emotion was still hanging in the air. I only recently noticed the knife still in @ale_mesa’s grip🔪
