POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

In a time when AI is becoming ubiquitous and threatening all forms of creativity (and even the future of humanity, as some experts have recently said), I wanted to emphasise the preciousness of craftsmanship and everything handmade by sharing my process of creating a pet portrait.
Each board is cut by hand from reclaimed plywood, then carefully sanded down before painting the background, then the pet portrait, which is then wrapped in handpainted wrapping paper.
Yes, it is a lenghty process and this reel is much longer than the "recommended" length, so thank you to those who watch it until the end (and read my spiel too 😉) and, more importantly, a BIG THANK YOU to all the lovely people who commissioned a pet portrait from me or bought one of my other creations. I tried to tagged you all in this post (I hope I haven't forgotten anyone).
So please keep supporting artists and makers by shopping handmade 🙏🏻

Flag is up! I know there are a lot of us out there who still believe in democracy, equality, liberty, and justice for ALL— I will keep that in mind as I cautiously celebrate this year. 🇺🇸

Shout out to @bittersoutherner for the awesome design and steady supply of statement pieces! 💙✨🙌

(Also, now that I have taken this photo, it looks like gutter cleaning is in order. Maybe I will save that for when the country does the same…)

Artificial intelligence will never replace the unique quality of what has been crafted by the human hand.
The optimist in me hopes that, in the long term, it will even give it more value.
Thank you Gina @touchofgina.photography for supporting artists like me by commissioning an actual painting and not downloading some cheap AI generated print instead and to all those who ordered from me 🎁 (tagged in this post 🙏)

☘️ A little floral flatlay to say THANK YOU ❤️
During the last 5 years, despite all its flaws, Instagram has undeniably inspired me to be more creative and also go out of my comfort zone. This account was first created to show photos of our fabulous trip across America but it has gradually evolved to reflect my diverse interests and also showcase my artworks and various creations.
Along the way I have met wonderful people who have become virtual yet true friends. I have also enjoyed being inspired by all your beautiful accounts.
So thank you for being here (and for reading this 😉). Thank you for your support and your kind words. They mean the world to me. ❤️

☕️🧶 Sharing the process behind making my seasonal ornaments. Each design is cut by hand in reclaimed balsa wood then painted by hand. They are one of a kind, a far cry from the mass produced c**p sold on Temu, Amazon and Co, so yes, of course, they don't come cheap (€35/$40/£30 each, shipping included).

If you would like to shop small for Christmas, you can see my other designs in my newest reel or in my shop @whatmariemakes 🎁
It's also the perfect time to commission a pet portrait in time for Christmas 🎄

The pencil is worn. The mug is chipped. But that’s the point, isn’t it?
