POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A look into our first month-long Naoshima artist residency program from this past Spring, featuring Astra Medeiros ( @astra.medeiros ) from Oregon, USA.

Astra experienced exactly what we hoped our artist in residence would - soaking up the magic of the island and developing relationships with the local residents, all of which affected the nature of her body of work. We couldn’t be more pleased to have hosted such a wonderful artist and human for the very first residency.

We look forward to seeing what the future holds for her!

Big thanks to Art Island Center for their support and collaboration in hosting the collage workshop and exhibition! @artislandcenter

特別ゲストミュージシャン、ジョージア州アトランタ（アメリカ）出身の Bonnie Behaveが、今週土曜日20:00～21:30にハウスコンサートを開催します！参加費は寄付制です。

Special guest musician, Bonnie Behave, is performing a house show THIS Saturday 4/25 from 8-9:30pm at Sadou Inn! Entry by donation.
.
Bonnie Behave is a sonic shapeshifter and looper artist who weaves layered vocals, bass, and rhythm into immersive, transcendent soundscapes. Blending soulful melodies with spiritual intention, her performances feel less like concerts and more like living rituals, inviting listeners into a space of reflection, elevation, and deep presence.
.

Kuroishi and Kizukuri, Aomori.

A wild few days with @jenonomerts and her old crew.

That bizarre blob-like figure with blinking eyes, you wonder? It’s a giant rendition of Shakoki-dogu, a Jomon-period artifact that puts on a light show when a train is approaching the Kizukuri station. Because…local art by committee…

That video in the bottle shop? A shochu dispensary and the only shop open at 9am in Kuroishi, which might or might not indicate how people deal w the cold and snow in these parts - a wonderfully untouched corner of Japan.

This is one of the reasons to brave delays, glitches and endless waits in podunk train stations:
Aoni Onsen, aka Lamp No Yado, a hot spring hotel hiding in a cul de sac, wedged in a valley, at the end of a steep hill. Down here there’s no electricity and zero connectivity. But there’s ample old world charm, kerosene lighting and four very ancient wooden baths. So worth the trek!

I first visited this place circa 14 years ago, nothing has changed, apart from maybe the guests; it’s clearly on the tourist radar these days.

Traveling through the snowiest parts of Japan requires patience and a really good reason to brave delays, glitches and endless waits in podunk train stations.
