I’m starting my first residency ever ✨tomorrow✨!! Come celebrate Filipino American History Month by experiencing and supporting the bridging of the food, drink and music crafts of New Orleans-based (Filipino) creatives at a Filipino-owned, Filipino-fueled, historic New Orleans venue. Another great way to experience and support is by watching Forgotten Island in the theaters. Tayo na ᜆᜌᜓ ᜈ😤

Maraming salamat po, Ate Cheryl and Kuya Brad, for the opportunity🙏

As part of the Filipinx diaspora providing liberation-centered therapy, seeing my listing go up on the @therapinxy website feels so tender.

In December 2024, I was at a crossroads in my personal life: I was living abroad. My professional basketball career had come to an end and I was not sure what came next for me.

I was back in the Bay and sat across from @jeromenoveras of @bituinstudio, as he told me stories on the origins and functions of the batok tattooing tradition in the Precolonial (so-called) Philippines. He shared that the markings one wears are not only of the individual’s singular life story but often a commemoration of those who came before. When we pass from this world, these markings indicate whom we belong to; they help our ancestors claim us.

My grandmother’s maternal lineage is from the Visayas, and he freestyled this beautiful tattoo for me using the motifs from that region, invoking my ancestors for guidance on my next steps, beseeching them to direct me to the horizons they’d have me walk toward.

Nine months and several dreams, visions, and rituals later, I heard the call to come home. And my ancestors continue to guide me as I step into serving the communities I belong to, including folks of the Filipinx diaspora.

I believe pakikiramdam (deep, intuitive attunement) to be part of my ancestral inheritance and it is genuinely the privilege of my lifetime to be able to offer the gifts that my lineages have called me to steward into the world.
