Fala Galera do surfe! Compartilho o print do ranking da IPS (correspondente à WSL de hoje), em 1978, depois do Waimea 5000, que rolou em julho do mesmo ano, e do evento da Florida. (Print compartilhado hoje, 15/4/26, pelo meu amigo Augusto Gomes!) Depois de passar toda a triagem do Waimea 5000 em 1978, entrar no main event, passar uma bateria contra o Roberto Valério, e perder em seguida para o aussie Chris Byrne, fiquei entre os 16 melhores do campeonato, e subí no ranking pra 56° lugar. Pra quem não conhece muito a história do surfe brasileiro e das gerações que abriram as portas da competição internacional, leiam abaixo alguns dos vários nomes dos amigos “legends” que estavam rankeados na IPS, que tinha o patrocínio da Pan Am, cia aérea americana mais conhecida da época Eu ainda estava listado logo acima dos meus dois ídolos. Pepê Lopes e Gerry Lopez! ✨ 🍀❤️🏄🏾 E abaixo do amigo e fera/legend do surfe, Valdir Vargas! Os mais bem posicionados eram: 30° colocação - Cauli Rodrigues 42° “ - Lipe Dylong 45° “ - Otávio Pacheco & Rico de Souza 56° “ - Iazinho Martins, Cisco Arana, Valdir Vargas, Cacau Falcão, Pepê Lopes 67° colocação - André Pitzalis, Roberto Valério & Ian Robert OBS: Sultans of Swing do Dire Straits era o “hit” da época!

He is one of the most genuine guys you will ever meet! I’ve known him for over 20 years. I remember traving the world back in the day in the WQS when we met! He relocated to the north shore where he’s been living the last decade! He is the type of guy who lets his surfing do the talking. He’s very humble in and out of the water not many people can say that! Stoked to have him as a friend and it’s a honor to have him part of the Ohana riding and working @northshoresurfshop at sharks cove! @shauntomson @markrichardssurfboards what you guys think? Por: KLAUS MITTELDORF: As praias desertas de Saquarema, ainda eram habitadas por personagens do passado e a moda da praia lembrava o mais a contracultura da Europa e California dos anos 60. Tudo era novo, tudo era lindo. E o surf e aquelas ondas gigantes eram um espetáculo surpreendente para aqueles tempos de descobertas. Todos paravam na praia tentando entender como aquela galera conseguia enfrentar aqueles mares com pranchas tão simples e rudimentares. E no lado esquerdo, rodeado de amigos e curiosos, o fotógrafo Múcio Scorzelli foi um dos primeiros a documentar aquele paraiso recém descoberto. Ele morava num sítio logo atrás da praia de itaúna, cujo acesso, pela linda estrada de terra, era um passeio e uma aventura desfiadora nos fins de tarde ensolarados.
