“Fine, I’ll make it myself.” Okay, not exactly. But the story behind US x Abisola is pretty close.

Abisola has been saving styles she loved that simply were not being made in her size. When @UniversalStandard came calling, that folder became part of the inspiration. And she had requirements. She wanted structure. She wanted cool details. She wanted comfort. She wanted to understand the technical side.
And she wanted EVERY piece available across the full 00 to 40 size range.

And honestly? We love a woman who follows through. What started with Curvatude, took her through NYFW and Miami Swim Week, and eventually became a half-joking Facebook post has grown into ThickCon, a fashion experience created with the plus size community at the CENTER of the conversation. Not squeezed in.

Not added at the last minute. Not represented by the one body deemed “plus enough” for the runway. CENTERED. TCF’s Jerilyn Harper sat down with Kimberly to talk about the Fashion Week moment that changed everything, the family powering ThickCon behind the scenes, the 100+ models who wanted a chance to walk, and why she believes ThickCon can become a beacon for our community.

And after more than 20 years in this industry, she is STILL taking up space, walking NYFW, showing up backstage at Christian Siriano, building an acting career, and making sure the girls coming behind her know exactly how to walk through the doors she helped kick open.

But Liris also has a WORD for fashion. “If you’re calling yourself a designer, you should be able to design for all sizes.” HELLO?!

New Goodness from us by @jerritheeditor I Tried to Be a “Normal Girl.” My Lipstick Had Other Plans. @jerritheeditor said her lips needed EXPOSURE THERAPY and honestly???

For YEARS, it was brown liner + clear gloss. That was the uniform. The security blanket. The “I know this works, leave me alone” combo. Then @TheLipBar’s Muse and It Girl showed up. First came the deep berry. Then the HOT pink. Then came an orange dress, an hourlong interview, happy hour, THREE street tacos and people calling her BLACK BARBIE. Excuse us?! But somewhere between “this is way too much” and

“wait... I actually LOVE this,” Jerilyn realized this experiment was about a whole lot more than lipstick.
Because sometimes trying something new isn’t really about whether you can pull it off. It’s about whether you’re ready to be seen differently.
