Surf Boats - A sport that can be so very cruel, yet brings me so much joy. However, here is the post we have all been waiting for .. It only took 20 years, but FINALLY we saved our best race for last, we didn’t have the ‘right’ alley but we made it work 🏆🥇🔴
On Sunday March 29th the Collaroy Giants rowed every little ripple possible at Tugan Beach and became the National Champions of Australia 🏆🥇🔴 We already got the AUS green Blazer, now competed the set with the Collaroy Black Blazer - Makes this the most successful season we could have ever asked for - Throw in being the SNB Rays team too 🙌🏽
Thanks to so many people through the years that rode these waves with me/us & put up with my persistence to keep going and questioned why I do this sport but stuck by me 😜

Forever Australia’s #529.
It’s always been a goal & a dream to represent Australia in surf boats - The Collaroy Giants did just that!
We claimed our green blazer in all possible surf conditions back in Dec 2025, and then went on to win the Trans Tasman in Feb 2026 with some of the best there is out on the water.
It was absolute pleasure to share this experience with the Currumbin Barbarians and development crews South Curly Burley & Palm Beach Pinas, but most of all the open women Collaroy Giants.
Some very fond memories we will never forget & I have never laughed so much in 4 days 💛💚🦘🇦🇺

Australian Open Female Champion.

For so many years, we were so close. If you had told little Ren that after having two incredible children—after navigating all the challenges that come with motherhood—she would return to the sport she loves, the sport that shaped who she is today, and win a national championship… I never would have believed you.

Coming back to rowing has been life-changing. When I was asked to return five years ago, it felt like a huge leap. Could I juggle it with the kids? The family? The mum guilt? Could my body handle it? Did I still have what it takes? Do I even have abs?

But when you surround yourself with a truly supportive network, incredible things happen. This gold medal isn’t just mine—it belongs to everyone who helped keep this mumma going, and who somehow managed to juggle all the kids’ schedules along the way.

My husband… you are unbelievable. The countless weekends away, patrols, early mornings, late nights—and yes, even my mood swings—you took it all in your stride. I have this medal because you believed in me.

My Giants—this season had it all. Highs, lows, and every emotional rollercoaster in between… but we did it. I always knew we could. I will never stop admiring each of you for what we achieved. I love you all. What we have is special—unmatched. You go, I go.

Collaroy—you are home. You welcomed my family with open arms, and my kids feel so loved by you all. I couldn’t have asked for a better club to achieve something this special with.

🔴 This one’s for the rowers.
Surf boat rowing is brutal. Nine to ten months of pre-dawn starts and late afternoon sessions, five to seven days a week in the gym, grinding through every weather condition the ocean wants to throw at you — all while holding down a job, a family, and some kind of life outside the water.
And after all that? You’re still at the mercy of the surf gods. A rogue wave doesn’t care how hard you trained. It’ll check a boat — or flip one — without a second thought.
Some athletes spend their entire rowing career chasing just one final. Some never stand on a podium.

This year, Collaroy sent three crews to Australian finals. 🔴⚫
Our Under 23 Men — the Longnecks — rowed their hearts out and claimed a proud 5th place.
Then came the premier event — the Open Women’s final.
And Collaroy? We didn’t have one crew in it. We had two. Let that sink in. Out of every surf life saving club in the country, Collaroy put not one but two crews on that start line. That alone is something to be enormously proud of. 🔴⚫🔴
The Collaroy Crusaders ran a brilliant campaign and finished a fighting 5th.
And then there were the Collaroy Giants.
Already named Australian representatives this year, they drew what many called the worst alley in the arena. Didn’t matter.
They put their heads down and won.
🏆 Australian Champions.
The first open women’s crew in our club’s history to win a national title.
The first open team — men or women — to win an Australian Championship since 1946.
Eighty years.
Congratulations, Collaroy Giants. And to every single rower who wore the red and black this year — we see you. The whole club is bursting with pride. 🔴⚫🔴
