13 years.

Sometimes I think about all the milestones we’ve shared together: medical school, moving (about a million times), buying and building our first home, adopting more dogs than any sane person probably should, scary hospital visits and surgeries, the heartbreak of losing our baby in 2018, saying goodbye to our sweet Swiftie girl after 15 wonderful years, and this past year… where it honestly feels like life has looked at us and said, “Let’s see what else can go wrong.” A transmission. Tire issues. Birdie destroying our handmade walnut barstool. You accidentally backing into your dad’s car after being on call. Kit chipping your tooth. Four puppies slowly dismantling everything else we own.

Gardening has taught me that you can’t rush a season. Some years are overflowing with flowers, and others are spent fixing what broke, replanting what got uprooted, and preparing for what’s next. Sometimes that “uprooting” is surprisingly literal when your dogs dig up the entire root ball and tree 🤭☠️. I think we’re in one of those seasons right now. A little messy and a lot of exhausting. Maybe even a bit over-pruned. But underneath it all, the roots we’ve spent 13+ years growing together are stronger. And even in seasons where life feels a little icky, you’re still my favorite part.

I miss our big adventures together, but I’ve realized my favorite adventures were never really about where we went. They’re making coffee together. Riding bikes. Watching the Tour de France, talking about books, art, plants, landscaping, cooking, working in the yard, and whatever random rabbit hole we end up down. Just getting to do ordinary life with you is my favorite.

Happy 13th anniversary, Benny Boo (boo boo boo boo). I’d say “here’s to another bike and another puppy”… but I think I’ve officially reached my dog quota. Haha. So here’s to just the *new bike* instead…and to whatever this next season grows into. It’s always you in my big dreams🩷.

Permanent jewelry isn’t for special occasions… it’s for real life. ✨
Mom life, work days, date nights, vacations, and everything in between.
