My song “Love You/Hate This” is coming soon, a video editor is still not in my budget, and I’m thinking about Wendell Berry:

Accept what comes from silence.
Make the best you can of it.
Of the little words that come
out of the silence, like prayers
prayed back to the one who prays,
make a poem that does not disturb
the silence from which it came

😮‍💨

I also made this with @jesse_in_grey! More soon :)

nine years in nyc ✨

i arrived here cosplaying someone palatable to the people around me and have slowly (painfully) morphed into someone comfortable in their own skin (most days). it’s taken time to unfold and i’m still on the path, but wow have i met some incredible people along the way and been luckier still to make art with some of them. i’ll say it until i’m blue in the face, but i’m unendingly inspired by those around me. some days i really can’t believe this is my life.

to my sweet pals: you have all lightened my load and brightened the path. here’s to many more years of unfolding and creating alongside each other.

Join us on Saturday, August 1st for a record release show from Izzy Oram Brown, featuring PEEPERS and Jesse in Grey!

--
Singing in hushed but soulful tones that bring to mind Christine McVie, Massachusetts-born, Queens-dwelling songwriter @izzyorambrown has the rare ability to crystallize emotional states and broadcast them on the most universal possible scale. Her affecting lyrics and melodies possess all the invitingness and discipline of radio rock heroes like Tom Petty, as well as the pop acumen and emotional intelligence that galvanizes fans of Phoebe Bridgers and Sabrina Carpenter.

Brown’s cocktail of timeless melodies, lovingly rendered guitar moves, sensitive arrangements, and unabashedly vulnerable lyrics give What I Want its unique charge. Every song rings out with the lucidity and command of someone who has thought hard about what they are going to say long before they say it.

PEEPERS are a nebulous and evolving electro-acoustic experimental folk ensemble (featuring members of Stars Like Fleas, Field Guides, Jantar, and others) that blends improvisational and compositional approaches. Cello, field recordings, accordion, tenor guitar, and electronics weave soundscapes like a twilit AM radio dial: kosmische drone sits beneath palimpsestic ambient folk textures and otherworldly, pulsing rhythms. This iteration of PEEPERS will feature: Tianna Kennedy — a farmer, artist, sailor, cellist, and instigator from Arizona now residing in The Catskills; Molly Must — a public artist from Appalachia with a long-standing interest in storytelling, collectivism, monuments and public history; and Benedict Kupstas — a writer, artist, activist, and musician from northeastern Pennsylvania, with a deep appreciation for the amphibian friends that lend the project its name.

Hudson Valley based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter @jesse_in_grey stewards the curious space between two nodes. His songs bridge the seemingly disconnected worlds of science & magic, heaven & earth, the poetic & the mundane.

To be earnest for a moment: when I say “What I Want” what I really mean is “How do I want to be?”- to others, to myself, in the world, in my creative practice. I think this is a question worth pursuing and one I’ll be thinking about forever. In the more literal sense though, I feel deeply privileged to be able to center my life around art, feelings, and connecting with people through these things. My collaborators and friends are the best around. Really I have it all already.

Hope you take a listen from top to bottom - enjoy!

one of the smoothest and most emotional voices in underground alternative music right now 🥲 so much love for deb never 💛

the thing about deb’s sound is that it’s peaceful yet emotional yet beautiful all in the same essence. her latest album, “arcade,” really struck a chord with me

“heavensake” was one of the tracks that deb previewed on her “colors” performance. this track will straight up make you feel like you’re floating at times. the little ambient electric guitar hits are so hauntingly beautiful when paired with deb’s soft and gentle voice. this track is truly one of her most beautiful performances

the album has been receiving a ton of praise from media outlets such as npr, alt press, flood magazine, dork magazine, and stereogum. alt press actually ranked it as one of their top 10 albums of may and in my opinion it’s in large part to tracks like “know me better.” this upbeat track reminds a whole lot of clairo, who was actually seen hanging out with deb earlier this year. this more upbeat poppy track still has that lowkey peaceful and melancholic energy, but it’s a really nice switch up from the first track

one of the most praised tracks from this release is the titular track, “arcade.” with flood magazine saying “the song (arcade) is d*mn good!” this feels like a deeply personal song for deb. with hints of modern day love and the struggles that come with loving someone in modern day society, this is a track that so many will relate to

deb never is making some of the most heartbreaking and inspiring alt music out right now. what do y’all think? would y’all like to see her collab with clairo? are y’all tapped in with the underground alt scene? lmk below <3
