I was (and still am) highly sensitive and empathic. Here are 3 things I would do if I were a parent to my younger self.
.
1. Do work to better regulate and talk thru my emotions | Sensitive children often absorb the emotional energy of those around them and I was no different. My heightened emotional awareness made me susceptible to being overwhelmed by intense emotions and stressful situations in my environment. I learned to disassociate, become aloof, and fawn in order to evade the outbursts and keep the intensity at bay.

Being a present adult who knew how to regulate and channel their own emotions in a healthy manner would’ve provided a greater sense of safety and security for younger me.

2. Implement emotion coaching in a safe environment | Being highly sensitive meant I was constantly scanning the environment, the emotions, the intentions, the desires of others. I would’ve benefited from having regular check ins that allowed me space to talk thru my inner world without judgement. And to not be met with annoyance, frustration, anger, or religious dogma in doing so. An exploration of emotions and feelings I was experiencing within myself and from others would have eased my amygdala.

3. Highlight the beauty and boundaries that do and must come with being an HSP | Rather than demonizing the sensitivity, nurturing it like a superpower would’ve helped me to know that I wasn’t too much and that I could use it to help others. On the other hand, teaching my younger self that not every emotion of others was mine to bear may’ve saved me from years of anxiety, depression, codependency, resentment, and exhaustion.

This list isn’t to shame anyone, again nuance. Over the years I have had many a conversation with my mom (only living parent) about these things. I can recognize that my parents did their best while still acknowledging areas that impacted me in a tough way.

✨ 44 ✨

On my birthday, January 8th, I was driving out to see my family and had this quiet moment with myself where I thought:

Today, I am the most me I’ve ever been…
and also the least me I’ll ever be again.

And somehow, in both of those truths, God’s timing felt absolutely perfect.

I haven’t posted in over a year and a half — and that space wasn’t accidental.
I realized something hard but necessary: I’ve never struggled showing up for others…
but somewhere along the way, I completely jumped ship on myself.

I needed the quiet.
I needed the pause.
I needed to come back home to me.

And what I’ve learned during that time is this — when you have real relationships in your life, the kind rooted in love, truth, and depth… no amount of hurt, distance, confusion, or silence can erase who you are to the people who truly matter.

I have never felt so deeply seen.
So genuinely loved.
So cared for and nurtured.

It turns out — you can disappear for a while.
You can feel lost.
You can feel like you’ve lost your mind.

And still…
you can come back and be met with love.
Fully. Completely. As you are.

Thank you to everyone who has stayed here, followed quietly, loved loudly, and held space for me — even when I wasn’t visible.

Here’s to 44.
Here’s to returning.
Here’s to becoming — again and again. 🤍✨
