We will host our next 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 & 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 on the 13th of August at 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿; an evening dedicated to conversations and reflection, all shared over a meal.

Summer movements: who’s free to move?

We ease down into the evening by sharing food and light thoughts with people we may or may not know sitting next to us. Following the meal, Alexander Auris and Jessica Gysel will join us for a talk, diving deeper into the topic.

This edition of Food for Thought we hold space for the queer experience of Brussels during summer. We’ll reflect on this with Jessica Gysel, a Belgian writer, editor and cultural organiser based in Brussels. She’s one of the founders of the pop-up bar ‘Mothers and Daughters’. We also have Alexander Auris joining, a Peruvian architect and researcher based in Brussels. He’s researching ‘A Queer Architecture Practice’.
How do we move and occupy space? Who gets to be (in)visible? And how does the city move us?

It’s with great disappointment that we have to announce that the Beursschouwburg airco is still broken…which means we also cannot use the rooftop on Saturday 27/06…

We worked very hard to create this programme and even harder to adapt our programme to this last minute reality. It is with heartbreak that we have to shorten and cancel shows. We wish things were different!

So with sadness we have to cancel the Derniere Verre / Last Call / Laatste Ronde Party in the Zilveren Zaal, that featured some great last dance moments with Bo Meng, DJ BlackSapho, Melissa Juice and LOV :-(((

Nevertheless we are glad to say that our daytime and evening programme tomorrow remains completely unaffected! And it's cooler inside the rest of the Beurs building than you think! Please do join us for the excellent programme that remains. Check the posts for updated spaces and times!

These changes mean less capacity for the evening => think about making space for others.

The past nine years of Mothers & Daughters have been tender and joyous and at times difficult but incredibly, supremely beautiful — and we want to celebrate it all with you. We invite everyone to gather with us one last time, in the palace where it all began for the final dance of our gorgeous lifetimes.

In the Beurscafé, join us for DJ sets by past Mothers & Daughters team members and a performance by Dick Tato. Tip your hats and jiggle your carabiners to these talented people and joyful tunes.

From disco to new beat (and lots of pop), Delphine von Kaatz is a daring DJ and traveling jukebox. She loves hits and scorching dance floors. She's also been organizing the queer party Mon Q Ta Praline in Brussels since 2009.

Colonelle Bambi is a selecta who gets bodies moving and ideas flowing — without ever claiming to be a DJ. What she loves is playing songs, even the most mainstream ones, as long as they can set the dance floor on fire. For several years now, her selections have echoed through events where the party is also a political space.

Jessthelez is the moniker of Jessica Gysel, one of the original co-founders of Mothers & Daughters. She plays mainly with vinyl (collected over many many years), and loves a mix of classic house, Belgian new beat, no wave and riot grrrl anthems.

Dick Tato, born in Istanbul’s queer nightlife and matured in Brussels, serves the soft-dom trans-masc energy you didn’t know you needed. He moves through heels, pole, and gogoboy energy, slithering through styles with ease. Known for strong hip thrusts and witty, narrative-driven acts, he keeps you waiting for what comes next.

I talked to @dazed about KUTT, trying to give some context to what was happening in the lesbian scene (or so I thought) 25 years ago. For all of you curious, check the link in my bio. I’m in great company too ;)

So... In 2001 I made a dyke zine called KUTT when I was living in Amsterdam, together with Martien Mulder, Marjolein Rams and later Marlous Borm.

KUTT was the sister of BUTT magazine, and was concocted with its founders and my friends Jop van Bennekom & Gert Jonkers, who were also really involved.

We only made 3 issues, KUTT became cult and hard to find so l’m so so happy it’s been republished as a facsimile book by @idea.ltd .

The times seem so right! LESBIANS ARE EVERYWHERE ♠️ As I already said a few times, it took 25 years to get here, insane!

Meanwhile I created @girlslikeusmagazine , was part of @mothersanddaughtersbar , co-edited ‘Love and Lightning’, co-built a queer co-housing, gave a gazillions of talks and what not on queer culture - learning by doing and above all developing a frame & vocabulary for the communities and lives l’ve been part of and love so so much ...
