It’s been a little over a week since we closed Giulia. I’ve struggled to put into words how special this project was. These are simply some of the greatest creators, collaborators, and individuals I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. Each one a bright light. Each one deeply dedicated to this beautiful tradition of storytelling. I built my character with all of their combined help. I couldn’t be more proud to stand amount their ranks.

Thank you, @jennifernettles, for your brilliance and courage in creating a piece of theater that honors the complexity, power, and resilience of women. Deeply grateful to have been a part of it (even if I was playing such a bad man). You are a sensation and the epitome of what it is to be a leader. Performing with you will remain on of the highlights of my career as an actor.

Thank you, Mary Zimmerman, for this chance. For one of the greatest characters I will play in my career. I found a specific kind of childlike play and joy I haven’t seen since I was in high school. You trusted me through my failures, celebrated me in my triumphs, and gave me the freedom to discover. I’m endlessly grateful. You truly are every bit the genius that they say you are.

GOVERNATORE — You really put me through the wringer. You challenged me mentally, physically, and emotionally, and forced me to confront my ego more times than I care to admit. I was reminded of the power of process over product. But what a joy it was to take a swing at you every night. You were a beast, a gift, and one hell of a ride. Maybe someday, I’ll dust you off again.

Also, a special thanks to @adam_rothenberg for his musical brilliance and gentle guidance. @adamzoto for being the best producer and champion a group could ask for, love you bro. @pac_nyc, thank you for the space and support for us to make something super delicious. And to the rest of our incredible company on and off stage!

About 48 hours before I flew to New York, to see @giuliamusical my -very- neuro-diverse brain decided that I should create custom felt embroidered pins for the cast! So the day we flew out, I gathered the necessary supplies, stuffed them into my checked luggage, and prayed it didn’t put me over 50 pounds, lol.

Since @jennifernettles was so busy with shows (sometimes twice a day) I was able to work under a shroud of extreme secrecy, over the next 3 days. Magnus and Kabry expressed their frustration, about the fact that I was STILL sewing, on several occasions, but I persevered! There were definitely some moments when I didn’t think I would get them finished “in time,” but the night before I was set to leave, I managed to call them “done”! Hallelujah. (See last pic).

If you were lucky enough to see this show, during its premier run, then you will understand how much it meant for me, to be able to pass on a small token of my admiration for their talent and appreciation for the work they put into bringing Giulia to life. And if you didn’t get the chance to see the show… just wait for what happens next!

a moment where the hero is the girl 🩵

where do i even begin? an honor and privilege is an understatement to describe this work. it’s catharsis, divinity, healing. i have been changed as an artist and as a human, and i will cherish it for the rest of my career. @jennifernettles , @adam_rothenberg , @austinmccormickxiv and mary, thank you for creating this and trusting me with something so special and intimate. to my remarkable friends in the cast and crew, thank you for being my rock and pushing me through every day, be good or bad. i just know this won’t be the last time we do this again

my sweet vitoria, what a time this has been. the more i got to know you, the more connected i felt with the inner child i tend to forget about. you reminded me of the emotions and flesh that make me human, and that it’s okay to not have all the answers. growing up doesn’t feel so scary now, so long as i allow the joy and whimsy that little naomi always had. ciao bella
