Today, I pause to express my heartfelt appreciation to the JET Programme. 🇯🇲🇯🇵

Since arriving in Japan, I’ve grown in ways I never imagined and been given so many incredible opportunities to represent my country, connect with others, and create memories that I’ll carry with me for a lifetime.

One of my most memorable moments was serving as a panelist at the 2026 Post-Arrival Orientation in Tokyo, an experience that reminded me just how far this journey has taken me.

To my students, coworkers, fellow JETs, and everyone I’ve met along the way, thank you for becoming part of my story.

Thank you, JET Programme, for shaping my life, expanding my world, and giving me a journey that continues to shape who I am.

ありがとう, JET. 🤍🇯🇵

Over the past two weeks, I have had the privilege of representing both Nagasaki Prefecture and the UK JET Programme cohort as a panelist at the 2026 Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET) Orientation.

As I recently began my fifth and final year on the JET Programme, this experience was particularly meaningful. I still vividly remember attending orientation as a new arrival, and many of the lessons and insights shared at that time continue to influence both my professional and personal life in Japan today.

Participating in this year’s orientation provided an opportunity to reflect on my own journey while sharing my experiences of living and working in Japan as an ALT. It was a privilege to contribute to panel discussions, answer questions from incoming participants, and connect with so many new members of the JET community.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to CLAIR for the opportunity to take part in this year’s programme and represent both Nagasaki and the UK cohort. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time on JET and a top highlight of my entire time here.

To all of the new JET participants: welcome to Japan. I hope your time here is filled with meaningful experiences, personal growth, and opportunities to challenge yourselves. One piece of advice I shared during the panel was to embrace new experiences and make the most of every opportunity. Time passes quickly, and the experiences that push us beyond our comfort zones often become the most memorable and impactful.

I wish everyone the very best as they begin their journeys in Japan. What a way to start my fifth and final year on the JET Programme!

It’s crazy to think it’s been 4 years since I moved to Japan and 10 years this week since I came to Japan for the very first time, but I’m extremely grateful for such an amazing experience in my life.
