Portugal produces 4’000 tonnes of oyster shell waste and 13’000 tonnes of shell waste overall (mussels, clams and oysters) each year. This feedstock is currently discarded in landfills and open land, where it contaminates soils. We collect shells from local suppliers and treat them before processing them into tiles. #oyster#oystershells#biomaterial#climateweeknyc

A shell doesn’t have to end at the table. Every year, 10 million tonnes of oyster shells are thrown away, enough to cover 70,000 football pitches. We saw a material. SEACLAY transforms discarded shells into something you can hold, use, and keep. Objects, furniture and surfaces, made from roughly 80% shell. Air cured, never fired.
