In Rotterdam for the Building Beyond Lab Week, I found myself thinking deeply about rest as intelligence, space as relationship, and people as landscape.

These days were not only about ideas, but about how we arrive - how we listen to a city, how we soften into unfamiliar spaces, how we allow others to shape our imagining, and how the spaces we enter hold us when we break open. I am reminded that the future is not only built through innovation, but through care, slowness, and the quiet architecture of trust.

To walk, to pause, to be witnessed -
to let a place change you before you attempt to change it -
that, to me, feels like the beginning of true spatial imagination.

Grateful for the people, the conversations, and the invisible infrastructures of holding.
We build beyond by remembering we are not building alone.

Moving Through Matter - metaphors, tactics, and imaginaries of space

Today, I’ll be sharing my work CARTOGRAPHIES OF THE FLESH along side 11 amazing humans and creators from across Africa as part of our Building Beyond Fellowship Cycle 4

It’s been a year of interrogations, reflections, and explorations with each other and our awesome mentors ✨

This is not performance.
This is reclamation.
A remembering.
A returning.

Nifemi Marcus-Bello and Rodrigo Amarante present LISTENING ROOM

The Lagos-based designer Nifemi Marcus-Bello will be present in Paris for the first time. He will unveil a new iteration of his M2 Shelf, this time integrated with a speaker – a collaboration with La Boîte concept – that recalls the living-room furniture his parents owned when he was growing up.

Installed within a contemplative listening space – complete with a bench and a stool by Paris-based designer Thomas Morineau Barthelemy – the work invites visitors to pause, sit, and immerse themselves in Brazilian musician Rodrigo Amarante’s textural and contemplative soundtrack.

Taking place at experimental cultural center Union de la Jeunesse Internationale – itself housed in a historic building that once hosted the iconic Tati department store – Listening Room unfolds as part of COLORS Studios’ TONES of Paris, a multi-day, curated experience connecting music, fashion, design, and community across the city.

The project was made possible through the support of Amauri Aguiar, founder of design gallery VERSO, whose longstanding support of Marcus-Bello’s practice and appreciation for Amarante’s work made their encounter through CONTRIBUTIONS a serendipitous convergence.
