ABORTION BARBIE

On June 24th 2022, The US Supreme Court released the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision, subsequently ending constitutional protection of abortion and women's health services. The announcement of the reversal of Roe v. Wade left me feeling helpless; there was no clear pathway to reclaiming the rights we had been stripped of, the rights that, within my lifetime, felt solid and unmoving. Protesting and pleading, I knew it wouldn’t change the despair for a feigned sense of freedom that barely lingered. The load was now ours to bear, to process the trauma of daring to be a woman in America. ABORTION BARBIE is just the beginning of my justice.

Model: Jillian
Height: 5’3
Style: Upscale Discothèque
Length: Micro Mini

Following a consultation, each model’s personality is represented in their garment. Jillian’s design is inspired by French nightlife of the sixties, with inspiration taken from the iconic styling of international muses Bridget Bardot and Jane Birkin.

Garment Two was ‘hemmed’ from Blake’s previous gown by undoing the joinery assemblage at a short micro-mini hem based from Jillian’s measurements. Loose sleeves were designed to incorporate a fun and kinetic element, perfect for the dance floor.
