We’re thrilled to announce the first workshop for this year’s Collective Summit: a creative session led by acclaimed Western artist Jill Soukup, whose paintings have chronicled life at Ranchlands for over a decade. From horseback riding scenes to bison studies, Jill’s work reflects her deep familiarity with the ranches we’ve called home.

Now for the first time on the Paintrock Canyon Ranch, as part of the Collective Summit programming, Jill will lead a two-hour workshop, guiding Summit participants through the ways art can deepen your relationship with the land. You’ll join her outside for an informal sketching demonstration and conversation about how observation shapes creativity and how creativity, in turn, fosters a sense of belonging to place.

Programming at the Summit will include additional workshops on conservation and land stewardship, so stay tuned as we announce more sessions in the coming weeks!

Registration for the Summit is open to Collective members only. Become a member at the link in bio and join us for this special week on the Paintrock in Wyoming.

My painting, Safe Harbor, sold last week at Island Studios Gallery in Friday Harbor,WA. It is a painting of a storm gathering over Roche Harbor with the many boats snuggled safely at anger. It has found a new home in California.

Quite often I do an unusual background with my animals. I usually don’t have any idea what it will be. So much for the planning stage. It’s more of a what if stage. Any title suggestions? 10”x10” unframed. $190.00, available at my studio. art@cindasue.com

PLACE // "Their graceful sway, tails softly swooshing as they peacefully graze, is disturbed only by an occasional romp, exuberant hooves and mane whipping the wind. I am happy that they accept me with little question, this strange human wielding colorful sticks and enchantment. These are memories that fuel my work and remind me of my heart’s song. I may only be able to count on two hands the number of days I spend each year at Ranchlands, but the essence of this magical place keeps me grounded, no matter where I place my feet."

Jill Soukup is a celebrated artist and long time friend of Ranchlands. She has been teaching her drawing and painting workshop at the Zapata Ranch for the past 8 years, and visiting the Chico and Zapata ranches to photograph horses and draw inspiration for her paintings for at least 18 years. Read the full essay by @jillsoukup on her relationship with the Zapata Ranch at the link in the bio. #RanchlandsReview
