“I think there’s always been an aspect of music that has been meditative and healing, whether its healing because of its softness or its aggression… that speaks to people,” reflects Ottawa’s singer/songwriter Jim Bryson on the significance of music during the pandemic. Bryson is one of 22 artists featured from the TD Ottawa Winter Jazz Festival’s From the Vault series, continuing until this Sunday, Feb 13. View all 22 shows From the Vault as many times and whenever you like until Feb.13.

The EATST vinyl has arrived!

I’ll be sending out all pre-orders this week…and will deliver locally to Toronto Thursday/Friday! DM for details or hit up my website to order.

Also, swipe to fully experience the sentiment of “Everything at the Same Time” (albeit the death metal version). The kids are home now for…awhile, and they’ll be helping me fulfill the orders 😂😂😂

It is so exciting to see the photos by Jen Squires and artwork by Susan Passmore like this and it goes without saying that it sound absolutely gorgeous, thanks to Jim Bryson (Fixed Hinge Studio) and Heather Kirby (Dreamlands Mastering) ❤️

We acknowledge the support of Canada Council & FACTOR Canada.

Thanks to @amazonmusic for putting Night Drive on their “Breakthrough Folk” playlist. It’s my first time being a cover girl, and that feels pretty nice too. 🌖 Thanks for listening ♥️

My new song Ships inspired by this place. I wrote the song during the wintertime while gazing at the ships in the harbour in Vancouver. As a kid, I thought these vessels never moved but were just part of the landscape, benevolent witnesses to our lives. The song is about witnessing our grief and letting it heal.

We have this monocular at home that we look through to spy on our neighbours and look at birds and the mountains from a window in our kitchen. One day, my husband Cam Giroux decided to put it in front of the camera on his phone to see what it looked like and it created this beautiful effect, making everything look a little blue and like a super 8 movie, very nostalgic. I thought "That would be perfect to capture the mood of Ships in visual form". So we shot the whole video this way.

The song is very melancholic and is about witnessing, looking back and healing, so the palette of blues and greys along with the illusion of looking through a spyglass is very apt for the song. It is very simple but exactly what I wanted to capture.

Jim Bryson / Fixed Hinge Recording produced this recording and played piano and synthesizers and guitars on it. Peter Von Althen played drums. Bazil John Arthur Donovan played bass.

.
.
🎓 She studied Design at Colorado institute of Art in Denver, finishing up years later in Vancouver BC, with a degree in design.

.
.
🖌️ Erica paints in a few different styles, including one that she calls "Cubist Impressionism", using a process where she separates the colors of a scene and paints them back in using geometric shapes and lines. She also paints landscapes in a style that she calls "Nouveau 7", of which she borrow elements from the fabulous Group of Seven, and the beautiful flowing lines of Art Nouveau movement at the turn of the century.
.
.
👩🏻‍🎨 Erica says: "I love everything about art, from taking photographs for future works, to the sketching and final laying down of paint. To create something beautiful is always my aim. I know I will always explore as I develop in my career as an artist, and feel there is always something new to learn! My goal is to paint great paintings that people are drawn to and that live on long after I am gone!"
.
.
🌎 Erica is represented in over ten galleries across Canada and has been a finalist in the Artist Magazine landscape competition. She was also featured in the “artist to collect” portion of Arabella art magazine.
