4th Place — Master Male | 2026 IBJJF World Masters Championship!

This result belongs to all of @teamnovauniao

Every competitor who stepped on the mat. Every teammate who helped prepare. Every coach who shared knowledge. Every person who stood in the corner, cheered from the stands, or pushed their teammate through another round of training.

Individual battles. Collective strength. One team.

4th in the Master Male category at the 2926 World Masters is something to be proud of—but what makes this achievement special is the teamwork, loyalty, and unity behind it.

We are Team Nova União. Stronger together! 🙌🔥

One Year on the Mats

I told my wife I was writing my first journal/IG post and that I’d be voicing myself more.

Head tilt. Eye roll.

Fair enough. This is new for me.

I’ve never had much trouble walking onto a mat in front of strangers and competing against another grown man whose goal is to choke me unconscious. But sharing my thoughts? Apparently, that’s terrifying.

So I’ll start with this:

I turned 37 during my second week of Jiu Jitsu at @charleston.bjj.academy

I just turned 38.

One year on the mats.

Six competitions. Six podium finishes. A trip to Worlds. Ten Thousand+ people chasing the same few minutes on the mat.

But the biggest change wasn’t the medals.

This past year, I learned to be selfish, in the best possible way.

I slept more. Said no. Protected my time and my mental health. Ate better. Lost weight. Took care of myself.

And somehow, taking better care of myself made me better to the people around me.

All during the hardest year of running my business.

I keep coming back to the mats.

The frustration. The challenges. The people. The lessons. The teammates who wouldn’t let me quit.

People say Jiu Jitsu changes your life.

I used to think that sounded dramatic.

Now I know better.

It did.

And I’m just getting started.

To my wife, Napoleon, Coach Nate, my dad, and everyone at Nova União: thank you. More than I can put into words.

I don’t know exactly what this will become and where I’ll share more of my thoughts, but stay tuned!

For now, I know where I’ll be.

I’ll see you on the mats.

“Let’s go, this one is for bronze.”🥉

Would you want to hear that from your coach in the quarterfinals?

There’s a difference between competing to medal and competing to win.

In this video, I share a situation I witnessed at the World Master, and a mistake I made myself at the 1996 World Championship.

If you compete, the question is worth asking:

Are you a participant or a contender?

First and foremost, I want to thank God. Without Him, I’m nothing.

Thank you to my family for always supporting me and standing by my side!

A special thank you to my coach, @danilocherman , who has kept me on the right track and pushed me since day one, and to Coach @jessicachermanbjj for always being so welcoming, kind, and supportive.

A big thank you to the @jitsuacademysc for making me feel at home from the very beginning.

And a huge shoutout to @srichardson.insta , @toptierbrazilianjiujitsu , @j_strick3 @the_real_joey_94 for pushing me every day and helping me get better!
