What’s the most harps you’ve seen on stage in one weekend? Try 11! Last Friday, Andean folk tales were brought to life with Frank’s Apu and then we were transported to the mountains by Strauss’s Alpine Symphony. On Saturday, we were whisked away to a magical world with the first act of Wagner’s Die Walküre. Congratulations to all on truly amazing performances!

💗
I am so honored that this is my very first post!
(I hope my English is correct...)

This was my third time participating in the USAIHC and I had decided that this would be my last challenge. And I have been aiming to win a prize in this competition, which has produced many great harpists, So I am very happy to have received the 8th prize this time🏅

I was very happy to be able to perform freely and in my own way at 1st round and 2nd round in a beautiful hall.
I was really surprised because I didn't think I would make it to the third round. I was the most nervous I've ever been in the third round, and I don't really feel good about my performance, But it was a great honor to play on the same stage with seven other great harpists.

The feelings and experiences I have had here so far will make me a good musician.

Thank you to all the judges who gave me great advice, to all the old friends and to all the new friends I've met, for all the warm and wonderful words. I'm so glad to have met you all🥲💗

Thanks to my dear Ghislaine @petitvolta , Françoise, and my precious teacher Kazuko Shinozaki @kazuko_shinozaki who gave me many lessons in the last two months in Japan, you all made it possible for me to receive this prize!

And to all the staff who prepared so much for this competition over a long period of time. You guys made us feel safe and comfortable for 14 days. Thank you so much🫶🏻

Last semester, IU alumna Şirin Pancaroğlu visited and shared with us her project The Turkish Harp. This project centers on the revival of the çeng, an ancient harp, and creating new works for modern harps, following traditional Turkish musical language. More information can be found @theturkishharp

Earlier this week on our studio recital, Colista Paul and Priyanka Gohal performed two works from Şirin’s Turkish Harp Music Collection.

(1st slide) Priyanka Gohal performing “Günaydin Longa (Good Morning Longa)” (2022) by Şirin Pancaroğlu
(2nd slide) Colista Paul performing “Cry of the Flamingos” (2022) by Şirin Pancaroğlu
