Brava! I don’t think there has ever been a career in dance more beautifully executed. A master class in ALL things: art, education, joy, family, longevity, and ICON status. It’s just too perfect and should be studied. Truly!
When Megan Fairchild, at her farewell performance of Coppélia, said to me, “Do you know what I’m going to say?” and I answered, “I think so …” and she said, “You were the first Swanhilda I ever saw and it left such an impression on me.” 🥹
When we walked away, my good friend Jason said, “You know she thought about that today.” And I said … “Oh stop!”
But also … 🥹
Art is just too special. It just is.
Things I took away from the unexplainable event that was today:
Megan’s freedom and joy. Her longevity. Leaving while still looking in her absolute prime. Her acting! Her speed! Her technical prowess! She is IN the books forever as one of the greats. And EVERYONE in the ballet world across the globe was there. Truly a star-studded event.
She ended a 25 year career with a ballet that included the entire company, the school 🥹, and heavily featured her female colleagues. That ALL says something. 🥹🥹
She ended with a ballet that knitted together both her beginning and her end. Both SLC and NYC. Part Christensen, part Balanchine. So intentional. So beautiful.
And gosh … I have no business feeling part of any of this except somehow I do because art connects us all. Art at its very best makes you feel woven into something bigger than yourself.
Thank you, Megan, for your extraordinary career and for sharing your artistry, generosity, joy, and brilliance with all of us for 25 years. What a gift to ballet. 🤍
Thank you to Blake, Jason, the Huntsmans, Jenn and Dev, and Ryan for sharing this magical day with me. The people you experience art with become part of the memory forever.
And thank you to Mr. C. The world would not know the greatness that lives in the Wasatch Mountains without what you built and brought to Salt Lake City. Your impact reaches far beyond Utah. We are all standing in the ripple effect of your vision.
What a perfect NYC/UTAH moment. What a perfect farewell. And I’m so grateful to have been there with so many amazing people I love.

Our beautiful Devree got married! So stoked to merge these two awesome families. After the ceremony Dev leaned over to me and said she had a different last name now?!? 😢🤯 I told her it didn't matter, she will always be mine 😂 So grateful for Jenn, 2 weddings this summer and she killed it 💪🏻

Today we celebrated the life of my beautiful friend Andrea Nelson.. She & I met exactly 20 years ago when we moved into the same neighborhood. Andrea’s enthusiasm for life was infectious and we soon became besties! We raised our kids together, vacationed together, celebrated, laughed & cried together. Andrea was so wise, she was my go to when I needed to know anything about anything! Literally ANYTHING! “She was so motherly”(said Savannah this morning) She loved Emma, Kate & Noah fiercely and taught me to be relentless when it came to our babies! Andrea was always incredibly sweet and generous towards our family as I know she was to so many others! I will miss our long lunches & phone calls hashing through life’s current events. I will miss hearing her cute, unique voice and thoughts that only Andrea could conceive.
Andrea was such a blessing in my life! Until we meet again, I will miss her and think of her everyday!💗
All of our love & prayers go out to Dave & sweet kids!❤️‍🩹🙏🕊️
