Day 5: “A Day Fit For Royalty”
We began the day at @vamuseum East Storehouse, perusing the home of over half a million objects from remarkable collections. A rare invitation into the extraordinary home of artists @georgiehopton and @garyhumestudio for lunch, and a tour of their richly layered interior and significant works of art, followed. A private curator-led tour of the State Rooms and Portrait Gallery of Buckingham Palace, the official residence of His Majesty The King, filled our afternoon. We finished the day with cocktails and dinner at @thetwentytwo, the glamorous Mayfair hotel and members club, where we were joined by acclaimed designer @nataliamiyar, whom shared her story of bringing this historic Edwardian Manor to life with her exquisite interiors.❤️🇬🇧

From the hands of our artisans to her forever home…

There is something incredibly special about watching a hand-knotted rug come to life.

Solace is created slowly, knot by knot, by our extraordinarily skilled artisan partners in Nepal. A process that takes time, patience and generations of knowledge. Every detail is made by hand, and every piece carries the story of the people who created her.

Swipe through to follow a little of that journey, from the loom to this beautiful custom piece, now sitting so perfectly in her forever home, thoughtfully created by interior designer @jlaytoninteriors.

This is why we do what we do. Rugs made not simply to fill a space, but to become part of it, whilst keeping this beautiful craft alive.

Through our Custom Rug Service, we love bringing a little more individuality to our designs, whether that’s creating a piece in your perfect size or exploring a subtle change in colour to complement your interior. Each rug is thoughtfully created, just for you.

A huge thank you to our wonderful artisans for continuing to bring our designs to life so beautifully, and to Layton for giving Solace such a beautiful home.

Should you be looking for that special piece to make your space truly your own, we’d be delighted to explore the possibilities with you. Please DM or contact us at info@wendymorrisondesign.com 💕

We look forward to working with you. Wx

Last week, I walked out the front gate of Buckingham Palace. For one moment, I felt like royalty. London Design Field Trip, Day 5:
We started at the V&A East Storehouse, with up-close access to some of the V&A’s most incredible collections. Then an art and interiors tour, and a joyful lunch, at the beautiful home of @georgiehopton and @garyhumestudio. We ended with a private curator-led tour of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace, surrounded by treasures from the Royal Collection.
A day I will never forget. Thank you, @christopherfarrcloth , for the most beautiful, design-inspired week and the opportunity to make new friends.
Which would you choose: the Storehouse, the artist’s home, or the Palace? Tell me

What a week it has been. Six days spent discovering London through the people, places and creative worlds that make it such an endlessly inspiring city, shared with a truly remarkable group of designers.

Our final few days offered an intimate glimpse into the lives and work of artists, makers and designers we so admire. We were welcomed into the homes of Lucile Lewin, Alvaro Picardo and Georgie Hopton, sharing conversations and discovering the stories behind their work.

At the V&A East Storehouse, we went behind the scenes of one of the world’s great collections, followed by the rare privilege of a private visit to the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace and its gardens at sunset.

To conclude the trip, Alvaro welcomed us back for a morning of colour and creativity, painting lampshades together, before we brought the week to a close over lunch with Kit Kemp in the Orangery at Ham Yard Hotel.

But more than that, the Field Trip is about opening doors, exchanging ideas and bringing people together through a shared love of design, art and making. To everyone who welcomed us into their worlds, and to the brilliant group who experienced it all alongside us, thank you for making these six days so special. We leave with new ideas, new friendships and a renewed appreciation for the creative people who make our world a richer and more beautiful place.

Until next time, London.

The unexpected architectural moments. The custom millwork. The unique finishes. The details you won’t find repeated from one home to the next.

These are the elements that give a home its own identity and make it feel intentionally designed rather than simply decorated.

London Design Field trip hosted and created by @christopherfarrcloth has been exhilarating. Day 2 started with a private tour of the Queen’s beautiful clothes followed by a visit to the oldest hat store in the world, lunch at Oswalds in Mayfair, a behind the scenes visit to Christie’s Auction House and ending the day with a fabulous dinner at Christopher Farr’s Director’s home joining American and British designers.
