I just returned from retreat. Every year, I spend 7-10 days in silent Vipassana practice at a Buddhist Monastery. The term “Dharma” refers to the Buddhist teachings, as well as the practice of the path. This song, “Dharma Blues”, was written to capture the range of experiences along the path of life. Here are a few recent videos of a live performance of this song.

This was the very first Soul Stretching event at @opacnonprofit with @fitness.junkies1 and it was so embodied to be sharing music for those connecting with their body and breath!

✔️ Day 2 with the keys, and we’re already checking projects off the list!

🧼 One of our first priorities was giving a few wonderful donations of display pedestals a little TLC. Today they’ve been washed, sanded, cleaned, and prepped for a fresh coat of paint. It’s exciting to finally be making real progress in our new home!

👋🏻 We’ll be here until six today so if you’re out and about, stop by and say hello.

‼️YES WE ARE MOVING‼️MOVING UPDATE‼️

( Because every good move comes with at least one little surprise!)

We’re still incredibly excited! As moving goes, we’ve hit a small glitch in our timeline while the Harbor puts some extra finishing touches on our beautiful new space. We know it’ll be worth the wait.

Our goal is still to welcome you on August 1, although we’re not quite sure what that day will look like just yet. Whether we’re hanging artwork, unpacking boxes, or celebrating together, we’re looking forward to taking this next step as a community.

And yes- we still need your help! It truly takes a village to create something special, and we’re so grateful for the members and volunteers who have already stepped up. If you’d like to lend a hand, we’d love to have you be part of this exciting new chapter for the Buenaventura Art Association.

Please join us as we open the door to our future- a place for creativity, connection, and community. Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you for your patience, enthusiasm, and support as we make our new home everything we’ve dreamed it could be.

The best is yet to come! New address is ground floor, 1st entrance, caddy-corner to Harbor Village Gallery and Gifts.

✨ Something exciting is taking shape! ✨

The Buenaventura Art Association is hard at work preparing our beautiful new home, and we couldn’t be more excited to give you a little sneak peek!

These photos offer a glimpse as we get closer to our target soft opening on August 1. There’s still plenty to do, but every day brings us one step closer to creating a welcoming space where artists, members, and our community can gather, learn, and be inspired.

We can’t wait to open our doors and share this exciting new chapter with all of you. Stay tuned for more updates as we count down to opening day!

🎨 Thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time, talent, and energy to help make this vision a reality. We couldn’t do it without you!

Dear Members and Friends,

We are looking forward to BAA’s next chapter: our move into our new Art Center/Gallery in Ventura Harbor Village. This move comes from months of dreaming, planning, and collaboration, including input from our Third Thursday Salons and both new and legacy members. We loved the 2nd floor view but now will have a larger, accessible ground floor space.

The new Art Center will be a beautiful, visible welcoming home, for artists, members, visitors, families, collectors, and the wider community. We’ll be open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. giving members the opportunity to present excellent artwork, take part in an expanded offering of programs, and hang out with other artists in a lively gathering place where art is not only displayed, but experienced.

We will be offering year long and monthly solo exhibitions, curated shows, and theme-based displays tied to Harbor events like Mermaid Month, Tall Ships, and Holiday themes including the Parade of Lights. We’ll also introduce a Community Giving Wall, where local nonprofits —starting with Ventura Land Trust — share their mission, inspiring our artists to create artwork, poetry and music to tell the stories of their mission, worth a thousand words. The events will give you joy and hope for our Venturan community.

I’m also delighted to introduce Jason Brock, who will join us as BAA’s Art Center/Gallery Director. Jason is an artist, musician, and a longtime Ventura resident, former VP of the Ventura Artists Union, and has worked with ArtWalk, Burning Man, the Ventura Poets Society and Ventura College Gallery. He recently completed a business and marketing degree and brings both arts leadership and a passion for sustainability.

We’re also pleased that Sharon Taylor will remain with us as our Administrative Director.

As we grow into this new space, member participation will be essential. In order to exhibit in the gallery, we will be asking members to host. (Gallery sit) as part of their participation.

More to come! Instagram won’t let us write the letter in its entirety unfortunately.

Second part of the President’s Letter:

Any hours volunteered beyond those obligated will earn credit toward exhibit fees, classes, or events.

Volunteer opportunities may include gallery, sitting, assisting with events, helping with installations, or supporting programs and activities. This shared effort will help us keep the gallery open seven days a week, and ensure that it remains a welcoming, well – run space for everyone.

With Fine Art exhibits, workshops, Artist, demos, and Q&A, classes, community, crafts, poetry, music, storytelling, meditation sound baths, Third Thursday Salons, Artistic Paint’ n’ Sip’s, and monthly First Saturday “Gallery In the Alley fine arts and craft makers festival”, this will be a true community hub.

We can’t wait to have you join us – exhibiting, volunteering, and creating something special together.

Because: Every picture tells a story, what’s yours?

With gratitude and excitement,

Michelle Nosco

President, BAA
