This time last year I didn’t have a seat at @cannes_lions.

This year I had the mic, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I work in AI, teaching founders, organisations, and businesses how to upskill and why responsible AI and ethics matter. The questions I get most: which AI tool should I use, is ChatGPT safe, how do I even start learning this stuff. That’s exactly why I launched my Substack, AI Ready or Not, to unpack the impact AI is having on everyday life.

It’s also why I was thrilled to moderate the Trust, Bias & The Black Box: Who AI Sees, And Who It Erases @saloncultureconversations at Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, the biggest marketing and adverting festival in the world!

As AI decides what gets seen and celebrated, it also decides who disappears.

- Can models be audited for bias?
- What does ethical governance look like inside these platforms?
- Who answers when a community is erased?

I’ll be writing up the full discussion soon. Subscribe free to AI Ready or Not to get it first, link in bio.

Thank you for the opportunity @sharrisny 💕

Most reporting structures are designed to filter, not to transmit. By the time a signal travels from the frontline to the people making decisions, it’s been summarized, smoothed, and sanitized into something comfortable.

Leadership ends up solving in a bubble, making the right decisions based on the wrong information.

This week Jen and Denise get into proximity. How close are you to the raw signal—from your customers, your employees, your operations? And what does it actually look like to close that distance?

Have you ever considered how proximate you are to the voices that matter?

A new team stands up. A revenue org merges post-acquisition. A product team restructures after a pivot.
These are all formation moments, and in almost every organization, they get treated as logistics — roles, seats, mandates. Trust is assumed. 18 months later, signals are getting lost everywhere.

This week Jen and Denise get into what it actually looks like to build a team that can receive signals, stay close to them, and metabolize what they’re telling you — across every function.

From day one.

Every signal your business is already tracking is a trust signal. The question is whether anyone is reading it that way.

Consumer insights, employee engagement, market research, supply chain data—it’s all telling you where trust is strong and where it’s eroding. The intelligence is there. Most organizations just aren’t built to metabolize it.

This week Jen and Denise define what signals actually are, and why the real work isn’t cultural. It’s architectural.

REUNION RECAP: Great weekend reconnecting with my @columbia_biz classmates from the Class of 2006 and returning to campus for our 20-year reunion!

Twenty years after graduation, the cases are fuzzy and the spreadsheets are long gone, but the friendships remain.

On Saturday, I was honored to introduce Dean Emeritus Glenn Hubbard and Professors Rita McGrath and Jesse Schreger, three scholars whose ideas have influenced generations of students and business leaders.

In fact, the Class of 2006 was Dean Hubbard’s first MBA class as Dean of Columbia Business School. Twenty years later, welcoming him back to the stage felt like a true full-circle moment.

Here’s to our 20-year journey.
Still bleeding Columbia blue. 💙

Over functioning and leading look almost identical from the outside. They cost completely different things on the inside.

Most of what leaders carry—the structural friction, the unnamed team dynamics, the emotional weight—originated somewhere else. In the relational space. In the organization. Without a practice for locating where it’s actually coming from, it all lands on you.

This week Jen and Denise get into what it looks like to discern what’s yours, what belongs to the team, and what belongs to the system, and how to make a real choice about what to carry from there.

You’ve been told you’re too sensitive. Too intense. Too much.

What if … you were just early?

Every leader will face a crucible moment.

Pressure doesn’t break what was whole. It exposes what was already fragile—inside you, your team, inside the system you’re operating in.

The real practice is reading what the moment is exposing about where trust was already eroding.

The feedback we keep getting: “Trust on a team is the hardest thing to operationalize.”

Agreed. That’s the whole point.

You can’t operationalize what you can’t name. Most teams have no shared language for what trust actually is, or what it needs at any given moment. So they default to process. More meetings. More frameworks. More communication. And the relational layer underneath stays untouched.

Relational Calibration isn’t another framework. It’s a practice.

Frameworks describe. Practices intervene.

Introducing Relational Calibration.

SGNL works across the ecosystem of trust—Micro, Meso, Macro. RC is the practice for the meso plane. The team.

It’s the relational expression of our theory of trust. A discipline for teams to stop, get honest about where trust actually stands, and build the alignment to move forward together.

RC meets teams in four moments.

01 Formation. Nothing is broken. Nothing is yet built.
02 Erosion. Technically functional. Quietly disengaging.
03 Renewal. Things are humming. Calibrate before drift.
04 Fracture. Something broke. Operating in the gap between what was and what is.

The work happens at the altitude leadership teams operate. Not adjacent to it.

Message to start the conversation.
