Perfect weather for our (kinda) annual apple picking excursion. Not a lot of apples on the tree this year but Jameson had no problem climbing up a tree to get some.

ā€œEncounter is about changing someone’s direction. Formation is about changing someone’s depth.ā€
— Rich Villodas

Day 2 of conference began with a powerful invitation from Rich Villodas to embrace The Slow Way of Jesus.

From the Morning Office of Prayer led by Mitchel, to new announcements from EHD and honest testimonies from Laura and Fernando, the morning reminded us that transformation is not rushed. It is formed slowly, deeply, and over time.

And there’s more to come.

P.S. ICYMI, we announced two new resources coming soon: The Emotionally Healthy Teenager Course and a Spanish translation of The Emotionally Healthy Leader Podcast.

Thinking back over the summer and these few sweet days in particular spent with these church planting women. Our annual @orchardgroup Women’s Retreat is like one big exhale — from the time given to reflect and relax in God’s presence, to the laughter that comes from being with people who understand the things you hope for and carry. Summertime Chicago is pretty spectacular too. Can’t wait until next year, and love that we’re rooting each other on and holding each other in prayer from across the globe in the meantime.

More than a conference - this is not a download of content or a summit of strategies. It’s a focused experience around the 8 Marks of an Emotionally Healthy Culture - how the inner life of leaders shapes the shared life of a church over time.

Drawing from Pete’s Scazzero’s upcoming book, Emotionally Healthy Success, this conference is a space to wrestle with the deeper questions:
- How do we know when we’re ā€œsucceedingā€ in ministry?
- What does faithfulness look like in a world obsessed with outcomes?
- How do we build churches that are both emotionally mature and missionally effective?

Check out our updatedfull speaker lineup.

FUN FACT: @jmojacks and I didn’t have a traditional wedding. We did that the first time around, with Dani and Jarronn. Ours was a brunch, followed by an after party where some of our friends gathered in DC, and the one and only @djalizay was spinning (slide 2).

Today, for the first time in a LONG time, we went to hear DJ Alizay again—this time at the US Open Fan Week. We brought the boys, and it was a drastically different experience than it was 13 years ago. More grey, less energy, but we still dancing, and now the boys are right there with us. šŸ•ŗšŸ¾šŸ’ƒšŸ½

Sometimes just hearing someone else say out loud what you feel inside is the quickest path to healing.

August is Grief Awareness Month. That’s why we chose to start these conversations when we did.

Comment LOVE to get the link to the full episodes. New episodes launch every Sunday.

Every grief story is a love story cut short too soon. But the period at the end doesn’t have to be a complete ending. Sometimes it’s just the first period in a set of three.

…

When periods are strung together, they form an elipsis. A reminder that the story keeps going.

Jordan and Jess both lost the loves of their life. And then they met the love of their life.

Maybe that’s the part we get wrong. We think love has to replace. That moving forward means leaving something behind.

But new love doesn’t have to erase old love. It can still linger. And the best loves make room for the past to be honored in the present.

Episode 1 of Grief is a Language is out now.

Comment LOVE and I’ll send you the full episode on YouTube.
