One year ago today, we launched this campaign with a simple belief: the people of Missouri’s 2nd District deserve better.

A lot has changed since then. We’ve watched the lines of this district change and change back. We’ve traveled thousands of miles, held town halls across the district, knocked doors, marched in parades, stood on picket lines, and met people from St. Louis to Sullivan and everywhere in between.

But through all of it, our message hasn’t wavered: costs, corruption, and chaos. For a year, we’ve listened to Missourians who are tired of paying more while getting less. Tired of politicians looking out only for themselves and their richest friends. Tired of the constant chaos coming out of Washington.

Somewhere along the way, this campaign became a whole lot bigger than the people who started it.

#TeamWellman has grown into thousands of volunteers, donors, union members, veterans, neighbors, friends, and people who believe it’s time for something different. This week, hundreds of those friends packed a room with Pete Buttigieg as we kicked off the final stretch. Standing in that room, it was hard not to think about how far we’ve come in one year.

We started this campaign because we knew this district could be competitive. Today, you can feel something happening here. We’ve got 33 days left to finish what we started.

We’re not done yet.

Wow! Over 400 people showed up to stand up for women’s rights and raise money for pro-choice, pro-equality women candidates in the Saint Louis metro area at the Gutsy Women Gala!

One of our prompts to reflect on was, “Think of a woman who inspires you to be brave,” and many of them were in this room today. I’m proud to be a member of @nwpc_stl among such powerful, brave women. 💜

Of all the ways I’ve served the community during PRIDE over the years, this one was my favorite.

From your bartender at Novak’s, Just John, Absolutely Goosed, and Lilly’s to practicum student for then SAGE of Metro STL to Pride Parade volunteer to collecting surveys for PROMO to pumping up the crowd as the Queer State Rep for the City of St. Louis, I LIVE to serve Queer and Trans Missourians. And, I will never stop fighting for our right to exist.

My friends, being in this role, at this time, is the greatest honor of my life. Thank you for how you show up for one another. This time is fraught with nuance and real fears about the future. We have to keep taking care of one another.
Hug your people.
Find your community.
Connect with coalitions.

To my MO House Dem teammates who show up as the fiercest allies in all the land- thank you!!! You all make what we do soooo much more enjoyable.

To all the people who make pride festivals happen- THANK YOU! Coming together to celebrate joy and share resources is more important than ever.

LGBTQIA+ STL, I love you.
Now and forever.

This past weekend, it was wonderful to celebrate the unity of @green4stl and her husband. Watching two people deeply in love embark on life together is truly heartwarming.

Hi friends,

We started our campaign in November 2023 with the fundamental ideal that all Missourians — no matter your zip code, no matter your identity, no matter who you love — are represented in Jefferson City.

Over the past nine months you showed up for one another and the values we hold dearly. You invested in our campaign by knocking on doors, working the polls, hosting meet and greets, fundraisers and shared your hard earned dollars to propel us forward.

We were the underdogs in this race.

But because of you, we overcame the odds and we won!

I want to acknowledge my opponent, Ben Murray, and his supporters in this race and thank them for a spirited, positive campaign.

Leading up to the polls closing, Ben and I were able to have good conversation as we pushed to earn votes. It’s a testament to the idea that we can be ‘opponents’ without being ‘enemies.’

I look forward to earning the trust and confidence of his supporters, and am eager for us all to come together.

Now, the real work begins. This November, our freedoms and the fundamentals of democracy are on the ballot. In the coming months, I will be working hard to get other Democrats elected across the state.

I ask you to keep your sleeves rolled up, to pitch in however you can and continue the fight.

Thank you so very much friends — for everything. I am so very grateful for you and will work every day to make Missouri a place for everyone.

In service,

Lilly
