Yesterday our Feedback crit group celebrated its milestone 50th session, meeting to see and discuss the work of Maud Haya-Baviera and Luca M. To date, Feedback has created over 100 opportunities for artists to share their developing work with a supportive and critically-engaged peer group.

Launched in 2019 and now meeting monthly, each crit sees two artists share their work. Asking the presenting artist to remain silent while their work is discussed, the format provides an opportunity to observe how it is received and listen to the exchanges it inspires without background information. Sessions are usually followed by a trip to the pub to reflect on the crit and connect with fellow artists.

We want to thank all the artists who have taken part in the crit group for making these sessions so engaging and valuable. And if you haven’t attended before, we’d love you to join us — drop us a DM or email tyler@yas.art for more information.

“Valuable and unpretentious discussions about our work which have become a really important part of my practice and mental wellbeing… they have allowed me to develop a strong and nurturing art community in Sheffield.”

“The format is really beneficial for artists who want to gain more insight about how their artworks are being read and interpreted by their audience. I thoroughly enjoyed it, felt supported and took away a lot of feedback. A fantastic and invaluable framework of support in Sheffield.”

“It helped me gain confidence in a body of work I had been doubting, and the conversations opened up new perspectives from people I didn’t know [but who] I now consider to be my peers. Conversations about practice are so important, and this is clearly a unique, recognised and much-valued opportunity, for both the artists presenting and those attending.”

“This was a very unique experience… I got exactly what I needed from the crit. The experience of this group is excellent and I can tell that this comes from years of practice. How this group has developed and the way they are able to communicate with the artist and each other is something really special and I really benefitted from their expertise.”

(Do swipe left/ right) We popped along to the Tarantella artists' meet up today to see the work we'd all contributed to. We had a lovely time, though we were there for the work and to see Sean and Jenny, today was a big reminder of what art is about, people. Was fun listening to people's choices and catching up with folk, all under today's glorious weather.

I'm absolutely stoked to be included in this. In total, including the curators Jenny Sutton @jennysutton99 and @prosaic97 Prosaic's very own Sean Williams @swseanwilliams, are 75 artists. Each colour is unique to each individual artist.

Prosaic Projects Gallery S1 4RE
13th July - 6th September

In Jenny's words:
Each participant will be given a small piece of board on which they are invited to paint a colour: your favourite colour; a colour you could not live without; that calls loudly to you, or sits quietly on your palette; a colour that solves problems, asks questions, provokes or whispers. A colour that is on your mind today.

My small entry is an incredibly dark mix of burnt umber brown and ultramarine blue that I often use as a close approximation to black. The colour sits between a dark, bluish, slate grey and black.
