Between August 2025 and March 2026, 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘀 and 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 brought together six artists from Melbourne and Sydney for the inaugural 𝕗𝕖𝕖𝕕𝕓𝕒𝕔𝕜 program—a generative platform designed to foster experimentation, critical dialogue and practice development through exchanges between artists.

𝕗𝕖𝕖𝕕𝕓𝕒𝕔𝕜 brought together artists 𝗟𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶 (Vic), 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗶𝗮𝗿 (NSW), 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼 (Vic) and 𝗬𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗴 (NSW), with artist facilitators 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗽𝘀 (NSW) and 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗳𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘂 (Vic).

Across two intensive labs in each city, the group gathered in studios, galleries, workshops and even an equine therapy farm to share works-in-progress, test ideas and explore new ways of thinking through practice.

From beeswax modelling and world-building exercises to studio visits with likeminded artists, conversations with artist facilitators and silent exchange with therapy horses, the program unfolded through a range of activities shaped by the artists' individual enquiries. Together, participants explored how digital and hybrid practices can be informed by analogue modes of making.

The photographs here capture some of those moments of conversation, experimentation and discovery.

Moments from the opening celebrations of 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗳𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘂: 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹.

𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹 emerges from Stefanou’s early memories of learning to sing ‘straight’, over a single flame, steadying her breath and vibrato to produce pure notes and not blow out the candle.

Following a reading on the work by curator Joanna Kitto, Tina Stefanou invited vocalist and long-time collaborator 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗼 to inhabit 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹 with her and, through a series of live vocal actions, test the futile pursuit of perfection to the point of rupture.

Out now on Offsite, moments from the 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 Symposium engaging with the artist’s ideas, methods, and ethics.

Co-curated by Helen Grogan and Joanna Kitto, the symposium focussed on the strategies of the artists, offering an insight into their satirical, humorous, and sensual approaches.

🎥 Ahmed Coshnow reflects on the vibrancy, rhythm, and atmosphere, observing exchange and attentiveness between artists and audiences.

🎥 An excerpt from Brian Fuata’s performance responding to 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, the conversations, the audience, and social relations between them. Fuata forms a kind of connective tissue between words, thoughts, materials, research and the emotive energy of the works and what is occurring during the symposium.

🎥 An excerpt from Rosie Isaac’s 𝘉𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘵𝘶𝘣 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 along with new writing by Debris Facility.

𝙆𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙚 𝙒𝙚𝙨𝙩: 𝙍𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙥𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙨 is now open ❤️

Thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday to celebrate this major solo exhibition by Katie West.

Through installation, photography, and sound transmitted via radios, 𝙍𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙥𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙨 dwells with the stories of three generations of West’s grandmothers., and the entanglement of their lives and legacies with colonial expansion in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. 𝙍𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙥𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙨 honours Yaburara, Ngarluma, Mardudhunera, Yindjibarndi, and Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo Elders and Custodians who protect and maintain the Lore and Ngurra, for all time.

Experience 𝙍𝙤𝙘𝙠𝙥𝙤𝙤𝙡𝙨 until 30 August.

“I am grateful for the 9 days I spent in Melbourne. It was a trip filled with great conversations and seeing great art. This public conversation I had with Teresa Busuttil and Joanna Kitto was one of many highlights. I’m grateful to @westspace and especially to @jmkitto for inviting me to participate in the 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 exhibition and symposium. I am also grateful to @lisrad for facilitating an opportunity for me to teach at VCA while there and to contribute to the Art forum lecture series.

It is rare to come across this level of sincere generosity from individuals and institutions in one place during a short visit like this.” — Basim Magdy on his time with West Space.
