First of hopefully many residency exhibitions to come...launching ARO - Artist R(esearch+Residency) Ojai - a project that's been in the making since I first made Ojai my home, connecting the ever-expanding network of artists and creative practitioners across fields and mediums and disciplines to find a little quiet, time, and space here at my little property.

I've been so fortunate to have hosted the multi-prolific @joanwilking again, and helped my incredibly talented musical friends Filip Sljivac and Magdalena Bacenak make a home here in the States from Croatia.

In these times when the world can feel so dark, opening up to the light of connection and collaboration shows the way of continuing on. I've learned so much from these beautiful humans, and this little open house exhibition is a way of showing what we've been up to!

Come join us if you're in Ojai this Sunday! We'll be showing off ceramics, reading some poetry, and making some music -

And I'll be making a grand debut of the original songs by Filip and myself!

Stay tuned for more news of upcoming residency openings and workshops!

With much love
xoa

“of dragons and monarchs”, 3D mixed media, paper collage 2025 by Alyssa Langlais for verse/visual Ipswich. Verse/Visual is a cool art show where you get to create an exploration piece based on the art or written word of another creator. I was super lucky to be paired with author and artist @joanwilking and her amazing short story “Boom!” @verse_visual #verse_visual #papercollage #collageartist #collab #prose

So grateful to my fellow writers for bringing my feature, Irish Morning, to life during my table read tonight! Writing a story is one thing, but hearing it is another. Thankfully, it sounded much like I’d heard it in my head!

What a journey this has been and I can’t wait to see Irish Morning on a screen one day!

We are so very pleased to introduce our next Featured Artist. Joan Wilking is artist extraordinaire!! An accomplished writer, amazing ceramicist and graphic artist. Most of our graphics are masterpieces of Joan. Always amazing us with her creations. She is on the Board of Directors of Ipswich Art Association as well! Be sure to check out our collaboration with Three Sisters Garden this weekend. April 4-6 link to Around the Table details in bio.

This was my exploration piece and it’s inspiration hanging at @verse_visual. He caused quite a stir. Check him out in person all this weekend with live music and special events.

The POWer of Graphics runs through March at Ipswich Town Hall. Don’t miss it!

The Nor’easter Mother Nature has planned for the weekend directly conflicts with our plans for a Plein Air. We’ve got zero leverage with her, so our event is cancelled and reimbursements are on the way for our 20 + lovely painters, many of whom were willing to get out in the rough weather and make art anyway. ☔️
Plein Air at the Crane Estate will be BACK!

Is the still-warm October sun luring you out-of-doors to make autumn art? Us too!!

Come and create with us at the IAA’s community PLEIN AIR October 20-22 at The Crane Estate! This weekend of Plein Air is open to ALL skill levels.

Admission to the weekend gets you onto the grounds for three days with support and encouragement (and snacks) from the IAA and two 90 minute “getting started” classes with the wonderful Jess Yurwitz of Slow River Studio. You can just paint/sketch/draw/collage, or if you are feeling a little competitive you can join at the competition level and be one of a limited number of artists to display their work at the Bachelor’s Quarters on Sunday the 22nd.

Updated: The rain date for Ipswich Illumination is on the second night of our event. We’ll finish at 5 on the estate and head down into town for some NOCTURNE work as the river and downtown glow!
