Closing 12 October, visit jocjonjosch’s ‘In Negotiation’ at the Casa Romana in Spoleto.

A Mahler & LeWitt Studios project in partnership with the Musei Civci di Spoleto (@spoletocultura) supported by Nicole Beutler Project (@nicolebeutlerprojects) Horizon Foundation (@horizon.foundation) and Rochester Square ( @rochestersquareofficial)

‘In Negotiation’ presents a new series of large-scale ceramic sculptures by the English-Swiss collective jocjonjosch in the Casa Romana di Spoleto, one of the best preserved Roman houses in Italy. The sculptures resemble massive stacked shells and are formed by abstract motifs refer encing body parts. Uniquely, the shells are sculpted simultaneously by the members of the collective. Their forms emerge through a series of fraught exchanges in which the artists pinch, press and knead the clay structures, testing their own intentions against those of the group. The project has been developed through the Mahler & LeWitt Studios residency program.

Jocjonjosch is the English-Swiss collective of Jocelyn Marchington, Jonathan Brantschen and Joschi Herczeg. They have been collaborating since 2009. Working across performance, video, sculpture, photography and painting their work explores the ways in which oppositions such as success and failure, efficiency and waste, purposiveness and pointlessness, have a tendency to slide into one another when pushed to their logical extremes.

Exhibition: 28.06–12.10
10:30–13:00/14:30–18:00 (closed Tuesday/chiuso martedi), Casa Romana, Via di Visiale, 9

NYC through our eyes 🇺🇸🏙️❤️

In the planning of a few short snatched days together, I had lists of sights and experiences. Of course, @jocjonjosch Joc would have been happy sitting in one cafe in Queens watching and listening to the world go by but he humoured me for a few on my list and then brought us to places which would be on no list at all and which of course were far more interesting from Gordan Matta Clarke’s hang out in the 70s to the most diverse part of NYC, to studio visits and hidden bars.

A rare burst of sun at @yspsculpture after a total washout. Goldsworthy’s hanging trees, JocJonJosch’s Boathouse, and Sean Henry’s hilltop watcher stole the show. Five hours in and still didn’t cover it all, counting down to Bretton Hall’s opening next year?

Jordy Kerwick‘s show opens at The Weston Gallery until 22 Feb 2026

Performance Bodywraps
by JocJonJosch
@jocjonjosch

JocJonJosch is the English-Swiss collective of Jocelyn Marchington, Jonathan Brantschen and Joschi Herczeg. Joschi studied at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, whilst Jonathan and Jocelyn were both at Chelsea College of Art & Design, London.

Through performance, sculpture, painting, photography and video our work addresses the fraught relation between the individual and the group, as well as the ways in which oppositions such as success and failure, efficiency and waste, purposiveness and pointlessness, have a tendency to slide into one another when pushed to their logical extremes.

BODYWRAPS
JocJonJosch
@jocjonjosch

Video installation ‘Bodywraps’ captures a collective performance by jocjonjosch. The artists wrap themselves in their photographic paintings, created in the darkroom, and by doing so transform the works into dynamic, wearable forms.

The crumpled and torn canvases shift as jocjonjosch each move, echoing both the tensions and joys experienced in working together.
