The Great Dinosaur Sleepover is an adorable story of a dino-loving child who has plans for the perfect dino sleepover birthday party. Everything is perfectly planned until all his friends come down with the flu and the party is postponed. A sad story turns joyful when Jake hears a loud rumbling. In his living room are a herd of dinosaurs who create a chaotic yet memorable night for Jake and his sick friends. The dinosaurs are all having fun but cautious not to wake T-Rex…that isn’t at all as scary as they assume it will be! The illustrations are amazing, depicting the various dinosaurs working to turn disappointment into an adventure.
Kenny G, Jack and Myles, there will be disappointments in life but with a little imagination, maybe the disappointments will turn into great adventures and other experiences. Remember that disappointment is the gap between expectation and reality!❤️

🥳 Happy to (finally) present my school’s Forest of Reading bracket!

📚I’ve never run a Forest of Reading voting before, but the Blue Spruce nominated books were so fantastic that I wanted to share them with the students and have some fun with it! All the books were borrowed from my local library and grades 1-3 classes participated in the voting.

I set the bracket up on a long bulletin board in the hallway and each book cover displayed also had a written summary with it. When a book won, I moved the coloured cover image to the next bracket and left behind a black and white cover that was marked as ‘winner’.

🙌 But I certainly didn’t do this by myself! My whole class was involved in the process. Here’s how my students helped:

⭐️ They delivered the voting slips to classrooms
⭐️ They counted the votes
⭐️ They wrote book summaries
⭐️ They created ‘winner’ tags
⭐️ Two students worked together on the trophy

🎉Congratulations to the winner of our bracket, The Great Dinosaur Sleepover, and to all the incredible Blue Spruce nominees! In my eyes, all the books are winners because each book was a child’s favourite!

📕 Bannock in a Hammock

📕 The Beat of the Dragon Boat

📕 Fox and the Mystery Letter

📕 The Friendship Blanket

📕 The Girl Who Loved Poutine

📕 The Great Dinosaur Sleepover 🏆 winner!

📕 It’s Okay, Just Ask

📕 The Most Magnificent Team

📕 Patty Dreams

📕 The Weedflower 🏅 runner up!

Which book would you vote for??

We read the books, the students voted, and the winner in my school has been chosen! Swipe to see our top book(s).

The students thoroughly enjoyed participating in the @forestofreadingprogram this year! It was our first time ever participating in Blue Spruce (the picture book category) all thanks to the generous sponsorship of a sister school. We took our time in the library reading the books, discussing and giving them star ratings, then the students voted with paper ballots and our Elections Canada voting supplies. I was so surprised as I counted ballots!!!

The results were really really close, and we actually ended up with 2 winning titles. They are:

The Great Dinosaur Sleepover by Linda Bailey and illustrated by Joe Bluhm, from @tundrabooks

The Beat of the Dragon Boat by Christina Matula and illustrated by Nicole Wong, from @sleepingbearpress

I’ve submitted our results, and now we have to wait patiently for the Canada-wide winner to be announced on May 13th! Did your school participate this year? Which book did your students enjoy the most?

“I FANTASTICI LIBRI VOLANTI DI MR. MORRIS LESSMORE”

Morris Lessmore amava le parole.
Amava le storie.
Amava i libri.

“I fantastici libri volanti di Mr. Morris Lessmore”
di William Joyce @heybilljoyce e Joe Bluhm @joebluhm
Rizzoli @rizzolilibri @rizzoli_fabbri_ragazzi
