The Forge was fully 🔥 up yesterday for some refinement, and man, what a treat it was!

I started hearing about this girl a couple years ago. Her Dad and I finally crossed paths online a year or two ago and shocker…she’s a local TN girl. Anyway, I’ve been waiting to see this wedge game for almost a year now and the wait didn’t disappoint. @carleerogers07 can flat out golf her ball.

That being said, elite athletes are always looking for the next level in their process, and Carlee explained that sometimes in partial wedge shots, she felt like she was losing the strike and that “the ball was climbing up the face”. This is a fairly common issue with the wedge games of better players, ESPECIALLY in those touchy-feely 20-30yarders. Now, there are basically two ways to hit those shots into championship-speed greens while getting them to successfully stop;

1-use a higher trajectory for a shot that stops by way of descent angle (shallower AOA creates a wider window for turf interaction and thus… increased error variability)

2- increase spin through the friction generated by a steeper angle of attack (steeper angle of attack shrinks the window for turf interaction and thus… decreases error variability = more forgiving misses)

Reality is, 50 yards and in is where shortgame become artistry, and just like I told Carlee, “the right way is totally dependent on your intentions for the particular shot at hand”. Every shot is different. You have to learn how to control each impact variable both independently and in concert with the others. This is how you learn to “work the spectrum” of possible shots…. And how you separate yourself from the field as one of the greats. Master YOUR game… ADAPT!

Carlee officially has a new fan here in the Valley, and I can’t wait to hear about how her wedge game progresses in the coming months. After a few good sessions of some micro-scaling drills from <50yards, this girl’s shortgame is going to be NASTY around the greens. The field better watch out!

Taking mental notes of swing tendencies in practice especially when a coach is not around to help! After months of practicing or even years of practicing, patterns will tend to reappear. Having one baseline drill could be all the difference.

Here’s an example of @joeboscocoach @realmentalgolf and I demonstrating this to a group of players this past weekend.

Growth spurts hurt, and they definitely don’t go well with my golf game 🤣 I’ve grown over 2 inches in the last few months and another half inch just in the last month. So I’m taking a long break from tournaments. My goal is to be bigger, faster, and stronger, but in the meantime I’m just going to keep working on the fundamentals my coaches have taught me. Wish me luck… send protein shakes 😂

S12, Ep 31 Part 1: Hypnotherapy, Swing Thoughts & Open Streakers: Inside the Ropes with Calc & Bosco

https://podcast.triblive.com/next-on-the-tee-podcast

In this episode of Next on the Tee:

Get ready for one of the most fun and insightful episodes of the season! In Part 1 of this week's show, I’m joined by two incredible guests who bring a mix of laughs, life lessons, and game-changing golf knowledge.

First up is PGA Professional and Top Mental Performance Coach Joe Bosco. Joe came highly recommended by top instructor Jeff Smith, and after spending time with him, I can see why. Joe is not only a short game guru—he’s also a certified hypnotherapist, and in this episode, we dive into what hypnotherapy is, how it works, and how it can help you improve your game and your recovery. (Spoiler alert: I even went through a session myself to help with my ankle surgery recovery!) Joe also shares some techniques and strategies for sharpening your game with your scoring clubs, making this a segment one you’ll want to bookmark and come back to.

Then, fan favorite and 1989 Champion Golfer of the Year Mark Calcavecchia returns for another round of great stories and off-the-cuff laughs. We hear about the infamous Christmas card from him and Brenda featuring a streaker at The Open, his encounter with a water cooler that nearly took out his mom, and how JC Snead taught him—and by extension, me—what the “Through Line” is and why you don’t walk in it. We also talk about his practice rounds with Tiger at the 2000 Open, his wins at the 1993 and 1995 Argentine Open, and why he believes All in the Family and Green Acres are two underrated shows...and I agree.

This one’s packed with entertainment and insights from tee to green and beyond. Don’t miss it!

What does a pro practice 7 days out from the start of a tournament?
-
-
The technical things should already be fine tuned at this point, and the swing itself is an afterthought, but carry numbers are a different story. I gather data with every single club to make sure my carry distances are consistent, and spin numbers are where they should be.
-
-
Sure there is on course prep (more to come) and short game fine tuning (also more to come) but this is the basis at 7 days out. Am I hitting my numbers, and how consistently am I doing that? The @trackmangolf combine is also a great way to prepare.

Play a hole with me!
-

As I prep for the South Carolina state open I find it very important to not just prepare on the driving range and putting green, but also on the course as well! It just gets you more into golf mode rather than the dreaded game of playing “golf swing”.

Last season at the 9-10 year old division and finished with another season title. Fourth in a row. Now on to 18 hole events and learning how to compete in the 11-12 division. Thank you to my coaches.

This kid worked her butt off all winter - 3 times a week practice, weekly visualization work, once a week lessons with the best youth elite golf coach around - @tymgosnell - and focused on learning how to be the master of her attitude and emotions. She had lots of ups and downs throughout the season but came out as the champ in her age division. She finished with 6 first place finishes. As her daddy-caddy I was honored and humbled to be the eye witness in watching her grow in ways that will no doubt set her up to be a champion in life. Since the day I found out I would be dad Ive quietly operated with an organizing context of “raising titans” and some days I can really see the power and influence of the words I use. Thanks to @tymgosnell and @joeboscocoach for what you do for Piper, and for our family.

Congratulations Carter on a big achievement. You set out this year to work on your game to get a chance to play at the next level, and through hard work you made it happen. Thank you for being an amazing kid with an incredible golf swing. You make my job easy. Youhave earned it.
