I’m officially back to freelancing full time! Over the last few years I’ve been working as a: - sr. creative producer for commercial shoots and reality shows - photographer and digitech for brand, lifestyle, and product shoots - music producer & sound designer These photos are just a small glimpse behind the scenes of a few of my favorite projects from the last few years. One more! The creative challenge here was to try to tell the same story that the video told. Because I had figured out how I wanted to do that in pre-Production, we were able to get this shot in the 15 minutes we had to get it. Because we built the story around the amazing vintage location, I wanted to have the main still image be a double page spread like you might see in a vintage magazine with the inset product shot and all. Lucky for me, I had one of the best out there, @joeelgar, with me who I knew was invested in the win. @nidiacueva_stylist and @neatestcheese were already wrapping out at that point but Christiane styled another hero sandwich for us while we had less than an hour to be out of the location. It all came together and I owe the biggest thank you to my amazing crew and to @kasumimeow for the layout design. 🫶🏽

When it came to choosing the right sandwich for this project, the answer was obvious! Pastrami. Years ago, a friend told me that a pickle’s acidity is the perfect companion to fatty pastrami. I think about that all the time. @langersdeli is where that clicked for me. So for this shoot @neatestcheese built us a gorgeous, heaping pastrami sandwich that deserved way more screen time than it got in the video. Am I the only one who can’t eat a sandwich without a pickle? *Not a real Claussen ad, made for personal, noncommercial purposes only.* This idea lived in my head for two years before we finally made it. Inspired by Gregory Crewdson, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, and even Garfield the Cat, I wanted to turn the idea of a midnight snack into a moody, narrative-style commercial. So I developed the idea around a brand I love. My goal on this project was to do something new for me: put down the camera and just direct. Focusing on leading the team toward the story I wanted to tell was so enjoyable and creatively fulfilling, hoping to do a lot more of that! None of it happens without an incredible crew of friends who gave their Saturday and their full talents.
