@cd4foster - the Chair of the Budget Committee on City Council, hosted a Press Conference 3 days ago, to call for the end of the Flock ALPR contract.

Several hours later, the Budget Committee, comprised of Council Memebers: @henryfoster4sd + @seaneloriverad9 + @cmkentlee + @vivianmorenosd voted unanimously to rescind the Flock contract! 👏

What’s next? = The Item will be added to an upcoming meeting agenda, pending pressure on @joelacava_d1 to add it as quickly as possible.

Call to Action = we still need ONE MORE VOTE to cancel the Flock contract at City Council. We stood with San Diego City Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera @seaneloriverad9, city leaders, nonprofits, community groups, and unions to say “hell no” to the 400-mega watt massive data center that is proposed to be built at NAVWAR by Old Town.

This mega data center would need enough electricity to power 320,000 homes, that’s like dumping a San Francisco into the middle of San Diego. And who would pay for this huge energy usage? San Diego rate payers who are already being charged the highest energy costs in the country.

This NAVWAR land was planned for housing, which San Diego desperately needs. We don’t need a massive data center that will only benefit billionaires.

Sean Elo-Rivera will be proposing an ordinance at San Diego City Council to ensure homes for San Diegans come before large data centers, and that no data center gets built without community voice, ratepayer protection, good union jobs, and clean energy.

However, this NAVWAR location is federal land, so we need our congressional delegation to fight for us and pass a bill in Congress next year to stop this mega data center. So, to help stop this NAVWAR mega data center, sign Sean Elo-Rivera’s petition that can be found online and call your Congressmember!

City of San Diego Stormwater crews are hard at work cleaning channels and drains in Sorrento Valley. These before-and-after photos show what a difference infrastructure maintenance can make. Channel maintenance will improve stormwater flow and help prevent flooding during the rainy season.

✅ 112 open corrective action plans
✅ 46% past due
✅ 40 high-risk items still unresolved
✅ Reports of staff taking stress leave due to compliance demands

Board members debated whether the agency should hire outside experts to help clear the backlog, while management argued employees are struggling to balance audits with major transportation projects.

The discussion raised questions about accountability, staffing and the future of oversight at one of the region’s largest public agencies.

Storm channel clearing and maintenance is crucial, especially in flood-prone areas like Sorrento Valley. Our Stormwater Department continues to do this work around the clock and across the City.

Earlier this week, I announced along with City and labor leaders that San Diego’s minimum wage is going up.

On Jan. 1, 2027, the City’s minimum wage rises from $17.75 to $18.35 an hour. It applies to every worker, adult and minor, who works at least two hours in a week within city limits. No exceptions.

But a law on paper doesn’t put money in a worker’s pocket. That’s why I’m proud to share that the City’s Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement is now part of my Office. Investigators and prosecutors are working side by side, so a wage theft complaint can move from intake to enforcement without delay.

As Chair of the City Council’s Active Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I was proud to join Council President Joe LaCava in proclaiming October as National Pedestrian Safety Month in the City of San Diego.

For more than a decade, San Diego has been committed to Vision Zero and the goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries on our streets. We’ve made progress, but there is still more work ahead to make our streets safer for everyone.

Thank you to Circulate San Diego, the Vision Zero Coalition, and the many organizations and advocates across our city who continue to push for safer streets.

It was great to join the Pacific Beach community for the 46th Annual PAESAN BBQ and recognize the first responders who work every day to keep San Diego safe.

As a member of the City Council’s Public Safety Committee, I’m committed to making sure our first responders have the resources, equipment, facilities, and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.

When we take care of our first responders, we’re also taking care of the communities they serve.

Thank you to Charlie and the Pacific Beach Town Council for continuing this great tradition and bringing our community together.
