Meet Cindy, the cockatoo behind the Brisbane 2032 emblem 🦜

Brisbane Times reports the pink cockatoo on the new Olympic emblem was inspired by a photo of Cindy, a much-loved resident of Parrots in Paradise, a parrot sanctuary in the Glass House Mountains.

National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore snapped her on a rainy day back in 2011, as part of his Photo Ark project, which has now photographed nearly 19,000 species. He only found out about the connection after the emblem was revealed. His verdict: "it looks like fire, it looks like something that's organic and wild."

Cindy came to the sanctuary in 2000 and loved showing off for visitors, flicking out her wings and throwing up that famous crest. She passed away last year, aged around 30, and now she's the poster girl for 2032.

Are you a fan of the cockatoo emblem? 👇
