🎶 In a world that keeps getting louder, what might we hear when we finally make room for stillness?

🎹 Meet @joelstyzens , a Chicago composer, multi-instrumentalist, and hearing conservation advocate. After severe tinnitus and hyperacusis ended his career as a professional drummer, Joel rebuilt his relationship with music through quieter instruments, lower-volume acoustic composition, and careful attention to space as much as sound.

Through Relax Your Ears, he pairs performance with a mission to help people pause, reflect, recharge, and protect their hearing. At TEDxChicago, Joel will be joined by cello, violin, and saxophone for an intimate set built around a simple, radical idea: stillness is something we can create together ♾️

🎟️ Experience Joel Styzens and “Relax Your Ears” live October 3 at the Harris Theater for TEDxChicago 2026: We the People. Tap the link in bio to get your tickets.

This is music not just to our ears.

These three musicians, composers, and teachers are challenging what music is, how to experience it, and who gets to enjoy it.

As artist Jay Afrisando says, "Sound can be imagined and music can be embodied."

Read more in our link in bio. A conductor holding a baton before an audience, with a projected book reading "[ticking clock]." Text reads, "New Story: Beyond Sound: Artists Making Music to See and Feel."

Post GRAMMY BRUNCH by Wouter Kellerman and Chandrika Tandon
Connected with fascinating new people in the industry while catching up with some very familiar faces. The food was divine!

Held at The Village Studios (aka Village Recorder) is one of the most legendary recording studios in Los Angeles.
Artists who have recorded here include Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eric Clapton, Lady Gaga, Coldplay and many more. Even film scores for Toy Story, WALL-E and The Shawshank Redemption were created within these walls.

Decades of music, stories and creativity in one place, located on LA’s Westside.☺️

In Harmony — New Year’s Day at Yogaview ✨
From movement to stillness….
60 people, candlelight, live music, and deep collective rest.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, breathed together, and helped us welcome the new year in community. The energy in that room was something special, and we’re still feeling it. 💛

So grateful to @yogaview for holding space, and to @jasonbrammer and @q.kearney for the live sound and percussion that carried us through.

If you’d like to be invited to future In Harmony gatherings, feel free to DM me your email and I’ll add you to the list. More to come. ✨

‘Handbird’ is about rising from the most vulnerable moments—with my tinnitus, hyperacusis, and some nerve issues in my hands and elements centered around identity and purpose.

*It’s a declaration that there IS beauty in the awkward flight.*

Being that Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing platform—you will literally be helping bring this project to life. WWW.HANDBIRD.COM
