Where better to complete a long run than along Windermere?🏃‍♀️💚

A 9 mile out and back along the western shore of Windermere, with beautiful views across the water and Wray Castle along the way🏰🌿

And if running isn’t your thing, this route can also be done as a walk, the route is on @alltrails as ‘Claife Viewing Station to Wray Castle’.

A stop at @joeys_cafe at the end for a tea & cake reward ☕️

A gloriously sunny day in the lakes so we got the ferry and after an early lunch @joeys_claifeviewingstation (mostly vegan!) we walked to Wray castle and back…8 1/2 miles for us, but Marley probably did double that! We had a brew and cake at the castle @joeyscastle and Marley had a puppachino which he thoroughly enjoyed. We are all going to sleep well tonight!

The best starter Wainwright in the Lakes? 👀

⛰️ A tiny fell walk that’s tons of fun, achievable for the littlest of legs, in one of the most beautiful areas of the Lake District? Yes, yes and yes. Black Fell is a FANTASTIC first Wainwright (probably the one I recommend most often), and while it’s not necessarily the absolute easiest (hello Binsey), it’s about as far from boring as it gets for kids of any age. A great walk for the whole family and a stunner at any time of year!

⛰️ The most straightforward (and scenic) way to tackle Black Fell is to combo with Tarn Hows. Spectacular tarn walk, a gentle climb, stunning 360° summit views over Windermere, Coniston AND the Langdales, and hot chocolate from @joeys_tarn at the end. No notes.

⭐️ An easy fell walk suitable for total beginners. You’ll spur off from the main Tarn Hows trail about half way round, do a ‘lollipop’ route to the summit and rejoin the Tarn Hows path to complete the hike (with bonus stops at the Tarn Hows viewpoint and island peninsula, picnic spot of dreams). Easy peasy, with gentle gradients throughout and plenty to stop and explore on the way!

⭐️ Parking at Tarn Hows can get busy year round, especially over weekends, so aim for an early start to beat the crowds. Black Fell itself is typically a LOT quieter, so park up by 9am and you should be grand for a quiet walk.

⭐️ If you want to mix up the walk a bit, I love starting from Glen Mary Bridge (also @ntlakedistrict, LA21 8DP), for a bonus walk up via Tom Ghyll waterfalls. It’s a gorgeous way to extend the hike, and makes this a solid year round option even during winter cold snaps (the main Tarn Hows car park is sometimes inaccessible due to snow or ice). If you go for this option, it’ll bring the total distance to just under 8km - comment if you’d like this version!

⭐️ One of the loveliest mini fells in the Lakes, and definitely one for your autumn to-do list!

We’ve got you covered.

All our locations, even the most remote, have lovely little spots to take a load off, shelter from the sun, hide from the rain… and maybe, before we know it, the snow?

Just like our little friend Skye, who visited us at Tarn today while her owners enjoyed their morning coffee tucked up under the shelter.

Whatever the Lakes throw at you, there’s always cover to be found at Joey’s.

Mapdec to the rescue! They diagnosed and fixed an issue with my shocks. So easy to book in online. Communication was so great I had time for a little adventure and visit to Joeys’s whilst they fixed it.

POV: you’re a milk jug at Beatrix Potter’s house

You are correct. Milk jugs have feelings too.

And yes, you can drink a flat white in Beatrix Potter’s orchard.

Need a Lake District day that keeps everyone happy? ✔️

This is one of my favourite family itineraries and we’ve done it a few times, in different ways. It has everything: fun activities, boats (that cars go on!), Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit, coffee, epic Lake view points and some lakeside time.

Our 5 must-do stops:
📍Brockhole on Windermere
📍A wander in Bowness before jumping on the Windermere Car Ferry
📍Claife Viewing station - fit this easy view point in now or on your way down.
📍Two classic Lake District villages - Near and Far Sawrey
📍Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s Home

Let me know below if you’re going to try this one👇
