POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Practice makes progress. Practice makes possible. Practice makes… Pennant? Three years ago, we had a lot of ideas. Since then, those ideas have had to bump up against clients, budgets, timelines, contracts, margins, feedback, logistics, and all the other real-world forces that turn a brand into a business. But we never gave up – we kept building and growing and making stuff we’re proud of. So here we are, three years in.... mature beyond our years, famously reasonable about sports metaphors, and more ready than ever for whatever comes next. Thanks for taking this ride with us so far, because yes, we’re just getting started!

Pennant just turned three, so naturally we released a music compilation on Spotify. See, over the last few years, we’ve had the very real, genuine pleasure of working with our friend and local musical genius @chris_plante on original tracks for a whole bunch of Pennant projects. Between anthems, explainers, endorsements and some projects that didn’t quite fit the mold, each of these is a little moment of texture and world-building. They help stories move and make sense, but more than that they’ve given us something distinctly Pennant to bob our heads to. Because some collaborations stay attached to the project they were made for. But these ones? Truthfully, these tracks have become ingrained in the identity of the studio. So yeah, as a little gift to ourselves and the world to celebrate our third birthday, we’re proud to present Trust Issues, Vol. 1 — fifteen original tracks composed for Pennant work, collected in one place for the first time. Twenty-three minutes to sit back, get in the zone, and build some trust of your own. Now streaming on Spotify and Apple Music. 🎧

Gusto began our partnership with New England Venture Capital Association in 2019. And over the course of these years, we’ve had plenty to reflect on. Growing our relationship from video vendor to branded entertainment partner. Developing in-person, hybrid and fully virtual content to engage and amaze. And immersing audiences in the NEVCA spirit and brand, however they’re able to engage. We’ve faced change and challenges together, and the brand has never been stronger.    For NEVCA, this year’s NEVY Awards have been 10 years in the making. 10 Mad Years. And as they reflected on how to properly celebrate, they decided to give back to the community by going all in on the event theme. In addition to the awards themselves, this year’s event includes historic retrospectives, a surreal journey through the last surreal year, and opportunities to focus on the future while celebrating the past. Plus, with the return to fully in-person entertainment at the @hobboston, it sure was one heck of a party!

Life is complex. And, you know what? So is live event production! Months of work, countless details, so many moving parts – all building up to a single program.   But here’s the thing: if you’re doing it right – really nailing it, you know – then the audience thinks it was easy to execute. Even as they appreciate all the work you put into the event. Because when they’re immersed in your branded experience, they acknowledge the work, the details, the moving parts while engaging with the world you’ve created within the event. It’s a kind of suspension of disbelief that uses the experience to connect your audience with something deeper. Like your brand, or your community, or some combination of the two. Because a branded experience is more than the sum of those moving parts – it’s live, immersive entertainment that strengthens existing connections while simultaneously creating new ones.  The New England Venture Capital Association (NEVCA) understands the value of this kind of branded investment. And they recognize the ROI of community engagement – year after year, in the face of massive market and social challenges. Oh, and they love a good theme! So, for the last few years, we’ve helped their annual awards ceremony shine as more than an evening of community self-congratulation. And in that time, we’ve come together with NEVCA to face the complexities of live event production – and life – to produce some truly special time-based content.    “The level of care and passion is palpable. That’s all you can ask for as a client” - Ari Fine Glantz, Executive Director of the NEVCA

Now, we love any opportunity to flex our creative muscles on behalf of clients. But like NEVCA with their not-so-ordinary-award-ceremony approach, we don’t do it strictly for our own sake. No way! We aim to build partnerships by demonstrating our ability to channel that creativity into outcomes for the client and their brand.    Gusto’s integrated approach ensured all messaging, branding and assets worked together effortlessly to execute a fully-branded experience. From the animated graphics to the expansive run-of-show to the physical poster designs to the bloopers, there’s no mistaking it – this was a NEVYs experience, and one that engaged the NEVCA community like never before.

Projection mapping... it’s a little like dunking audience members directly into your idea. Like a strawberry in liquid chocolate. Or a glazed donut into piping hot Dunkin – YUM.  Practically speaking, it’s similar to standard projection technology – just scaled up in size, layering and overall vision. So, in those ways, it’s less like casting light on a screen and more like painting visuals onto a surface. First, you take a real-world space with all its real-world irregularities, layer the perfectly fit world you’ve imagined onto it, then let the audience experience your vision. But see, that’s the key difference of projection mapping: by immersing the viewer, you’re creating an experience for them. They’re not simply watching a video, right? They’re a part of the idea and the vision, and they’re along for the ride.  For this project, our technology partner, @avfxllc, supplied the manpower and hardware to rig projectors, lights, and sound equipment, ultimately bringing our vision for @rsmusllp to life and immersing the audience in the experience.

In an effort to connect with the hearts and minds of their 1,200 partners, @rsmusllp wanted to create a memorable, immersive experience during their bi-annual Owners Meeting. Our canvas was an approx. 7,000 square foot conference room hosted at the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas. In collaboration with technology partner @avfxllc, Gusto deployed an arsenal of creative techniques to design expansive 3D graphics and RSM video to produce an 11-minute immersive experience.

It started as a joke, scrawled in a notebook: FIZZLE REEL.  WTF is a “Fizzle Reel”? Well, it’s not really a thing, which is maybe why the joke stuck in our collective consciousness. And, honestly, we didn’t actually know ourselves until we knew. That’s how these things go sometimes, right? So, one day we were brainstorming themes for the Gusto newsletter (link in bio), and we came up with the idea of leftovers. Partially we were too busy to create net-new assets, but mostly we wanted to share work that we’re proud of that, for one reason or another, never saw the light of day. And then, there it was, right in front of us, like a cold turkey sandwich slathered in gravy.  And the Fizzle Reel started coming to life. We gathered BTS, bloopers, client-rejected shots and mograph. We compiled our voices on a VO track made up of real lines from scripts that clients revised out of final drafts. Threw on a motivational chiptune track that no client in their right mind would choose. And we edited it together into something that (we don’t mind saying) slaps.  So, enjoy the fruits of our labors (and leftovers) — our jokes rarely taste this good.
