@john.constantineonezero is retired US Secret Service and author of Hallways and Stairwells.

This is a long-form conversation that moves from presidential protection to personal identity and back again. John spent roughly 23 years in the service, 15 of them on the Counter Assault Team, the guys in the black BDUs running motorcades and stacking up for the worst day that hopefully never comes. That particular mission, always training, always ready, almost never firing a round operationally, turns out to be one of the most instructive laboratories for leadership that exists anywhere.

We dig into what actually makes a team function under stress: consistent briefings, predictability, the Obi-Wan Kenobi method of coaching someone through a real operation instead of a simulated one, and the quiet discipline of holding standards without weaponizing them. John references the mission, men, and me framework in concrete operational terms, names the exact moment careerism poisons a unit, and explains why the hardest-working people in any agency almost never rise to the top rank.

From Being Bullied to Becoming Someone Who Helps Others with @sp1014cigars

My story is about the pain people never see.
There were days when the world made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. People judged me, laughed at me, and made me question my own worth. I carried pain behind my smile, wondering why people could be so cruel to someone who was just trying to be themselves.

Bullying doesn’t just hurt your feelings. It can break your confidence, steal your happiness, and make you feel like you don’t belong anywhere. Sometimes, the person laughing the loudest is fighting the hardest battle inside.
But I learned something important: the people who try to tear you down do not get to decide your worth.

If you see someone being bullied, don’t stand there and watch. Stand beside them. Speak up when it’s safe, offer a kind word, and let them know they are not alone. If someone is in danger, get help from a trusted adult or authority.
You never know how much a simple act of kindness can change someone’s life.

I may not be able to change my past, but I can use my pain to help someone else. I can be the person I once needed. And if my story helps even one person feel less alone, then my struggles have a purpose.

Remember: Be the reason someone believes in kindness again. Stop bullying. Stand up for others. Be a light in someone’s darkness.
