“Down With A Friend” is the second single from ‘Book of Stories (Home Recordings 1998-2003) and is out today. “Down With A Friend” is fairly typical of the songs Neal was writing in the mid & late 90’s, a beautiful vocal melody over a simple acoustic guitar chord progression. He added a lo-fi Casio keyboard Mellotron-ish sound over the top and double-tracked his vocals, which resulted in this sweet demo. Neal was very inspired around this time by a book called “The Journey Is The Destination: The Dan Eldon Story”, an amazing book of photography and collages by a young English photojournalist who was tragically murdered with three other journalists in Somalia in 1993 at 23 years old. Neal was really moved by this story and it spurred his own interest in photography and documenting his own travels. The idea of a “book of stories” really resonated with him and that concept landed in this song. Pre-order ‘Book of Stories’ at the link in bio and you’ll receive the vinyl or CD in early November

What a weekend. 🎶 Members of @citypickers are on campus all weekend, and Johnny Irion @johnny_irion is on deck tonight with friends.

Here's Christian Apuzzo @oneptwoz picking in the Den last night, sounding as fresh as Sand Springs water rising up from under Mount Greylock. 🏔️💧

Tonight's gonna be a good one. See you down in the Den.

A crisp fall night in the Berkshires calls for some front-porch blues 🍂

Tonight at The Lion’s Den: Arthur Terembula & Friends

Arthur @arthur_sings_plays is keeping the real Piedmont fingerpicking blues alive, with his own style and his own original songs alongside the 1920s and ‘30s masters. He recently recorded an album with Johnny Irion @johnny_irion a tribute to Mississippi John Hurt, coming in 2027.

Come down under the Red Lion Inn, grab a drink, and settle in. Don’t miss this one.
