Musical Director and performer Jonathon Gardner joins Supernova Spectacular fresh from an ABBA-fuelled Gold Coast season of Mamma Mia! as Musical Director for The Very Popular Theatre Company. He was previously resident Musical Director for the Singapore season of The Lord of the Rings: A Musical Tale, after touring Australia as an actor/musician swing. Other credits include A Christmas Carol and Stella: A New Australian Musical. A Queensland Conservatorium musical theatre graduate, Joni debuted in Rolling Thunder Vietnam alongside the Farnham Band before touring Australia and New Zealand with The Simon & Garfunkel Story. A pianist, guitarist and composer of orchestral works for theatre and advertising, he draws on global musical traditions. On October 18, Joni steps out of the orchestra pit and into the spotlight, strings attached.

This contract was one of the most fulfilling contracts yet. The cast, the creatives, the crew, production, everyone involved were quality humans and the most supportive bunch I have ever worked with, also, how fun to dance and sing ABBA music every night.

I also had my own personal journey through this one. I had lost some of my power and confidence in myself as a woman, so much so that I very nearly didn’t audition for the role as I was convinced my outer shell wasn’t good enough to play her. ‘Tanya’ really helped me find myself again and reclaim my power. I am forever grateful for her.

A week today since we finished @mammamiagc A quick blessing of a journey revisiting the woman & role of Donna Sheridan. This company was as good as it gets from hearts to talent. This contract personally felt like I could trust myself more than ever… How great is getting older?!
It isn’t for the faint hearted what we do. It takes work on self to believe in ourself & our capabilities. It takes work on our self to get out of our own way, feel the fear & do it anyway. It takes work on ourself to show up in our artistry & daily life as the truest version of ourself. As the leader we are destined to be. To give ourself & the role we’re playing the integrity & care it deserves. Anyone that knows me knows how much I care for the role I’m playing & for the mental & physical hygiene behind it. I am thankful my life journey continues to offer me opportunities to grow, be messy, be orderly, be brave, be dangerous, be loving, be creative & follow my light. I love you company Mamma Mia Gold Coast. Thankyou for journey’ing with me. Thankyou for supporting me. It was my honour to support you. Life long friendships have been made. And Thankyou to my team that support me off stage…Im very fortunate to have you all. Here’s to our next adventures. ABBA forever. ✨✨✨

My time in Greece has come to an end, so here is a final photo dump for the memory bank. 🇬🇷✨📸

I never could have imagined how we were going to create a full-scale musical in just 2 weeks - but we DID that! And we laughed, cried and cried from laughter the whole way through.

Each and every cast & crew member will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Well, this one is hard to put into words! But we will see if I can do it justice!
Mamma Mia on the Gold Coast was one of the most thrilling and enjoyable experiences of my career! When I say this experience was an absolute joy, I mean it! Everyday I would walk into rehearsals and the shows and feel the palpable love, joy and kindness of everyone around me. Everyone in the entire company - from the producing team, to the creative team, to the cast, to the band and to the crew - were loving, kind, respectful and supportive of each other. Everyone had each other’s backs and wanted everyone to succeed! Many people who saw the show kept saying that everyone on stage looked like they were having an absolute blast with each other. Well I can tell you that the joy they saw on stage was not acting, it was reality, both on and off stage! One of the major blessings of doing shows is the people you meet and the new friendships you forge! Well I am honoured and privileged to now have even more wonderful friends who have shared, and continue to share, their light and love with me! Much love to you all! Till next time FRIENDS! 🤘🏻🫶🏻🇬🇷

This one meant so much to me. I’ve always wanted the chance to be apart of Mamma Mia, and getting to do it with this group of people has made my heart grow and glow.

ABBA is a forever favourite and Sophie has truly been a dream of mine.

I’m just so lucky and thankful for the most incredible cast and crew and to be home on the Goldy sharing this story.

The outpour of love, flowers and support has been outrageous and I feel overwhelmed.

So many new memories and forever friends.

Literally, thank you for the music.

What a beautiful bunch of people to spend this time with, I couldn’t imagine it without any of them. It’s very hard to complain about spending 5 weeks on the Gold Coast and getting to sing ABBA every night
