—Shady Cove, Oregon, June 21, 2025:

Last night,
mid-way through basking
in an evening of creatives and connection,
I saw the news.

This onslaught,
this pacing,
is being maintained.
No,
worse, anted.

Thoughts drifting,
faith waivering,
this isn’t something that can be sustained.
Survived?
Somehow stewarded beyond?

Words seeking to
sift what is not understandable.
Not fathomable.

Still, real.
Here.
Present all the same.

The love that is a balm,
that builds bonds:
is displaced,
by a
bomb.

Bombs.
Plural.

Wars.
Plural.

Not a thing has changed outwardly,
not in this particular landscape.
There is beautiful music,
powerful poetry,
the embrace of a friend.

Just as yesterday,
there was beautiful music,
powerful poetry,
and, the embrace of a friend—
that for some of my sisters in Iran,

stopped.

Just as the day before,
there too,
was beautiful music,
powerful poetry,
and, the embrace of a friend—
in Palestine,

destroyed.

In Somalia,
stolen.

In Syria,
taken.

In El Salvador,
stifled.

In Poland,
broken.

—where balms and bonds
of sisters I have not met,
were not shield enough for,
nor from,
the bombs of men.

Men
who do not carry,
could
not
carry:

the love,
the grief,
the flames of beautiful music,
powerful poetry,
and embraces of a friend.

At the Palestine Protest Photography Exhibit’s opening night, movement photographer @johnnysilvercloud shares lessons learned from his time capturing the powerful moments of struggle across the DMV. He reminds us all of the value of trust within our community. It is of utmost importance that our movement for a free world is fortified with our trust in one another. Building relationships between organizers, community, and our movement photographers is essential to the successful continuation of our cause.

Visit this incredible exhibit consisting of prints from various photographers who stand alongside us in the struggle from now through February 23rd at the Palestine House of Freedom in Washington, D.C. This exhibit was created in partnership with @dmvpym and @palestinianfeministcollective 🇵🇸

Writing in isolation can be tough. Not the romantic ideal associated with writing but the society wide we’ve been conditioned to today. It can often feel as though we’re writing into the void or writing to nobody.

But while we tend to think of writing as a solitary exercise, it’s important to remember there are always others doing the exact same thing, —alone in their own spaces.

Writing is, in fact, a kind of unity, of being “alone together.” With that in mind, even when it feels like you’re writing into a void, you’re not alone. We’re writing alone, too.

So we’re all writing alone, together.
