A month’s (or a little more’s) recorded fun with some darn good folks! And as a bonus, a pic of 21 year old me in his happy place: in Paris, with a tiramisu in one hand and a demi-bouteille of red wine in the other!!

More CIM results! Along with our OTQers of Lars and Med, we had strong performances across the board, with Spencer clocking a new PR and Jordan making his marathon debut. Dante, Eddie, Pat, and Dmitry all raced tough from Folsom to Sacramento, and Dillon unfortunately battled an injury half-way through the race, causing him to pull out, but we know he’ll be back better than ever!

Next up: Back to the dirt at USATF Club XC Championships in Tallahassee!

This past Sunday was the 2025 California International Marathon. After a strong cross country season I was looking to cap my racing year with a marathon PR. Sadly, my hamstring had other ideas, and though I held out hope until Saturday afternoon, it was not to be, and I pulled out of the race.

But while this was obviously unfortunate, it gave me the very cool opportunity to spectate as a ton of teammates and friends got after it and ran some really impressive races. And you know what? It was an incredibly joyful, beautiful, happy day! Seeing friends working hard and achieving their goals brings a special kind of happiness, and there are few better places to see that in action than at a big marathon! Here’s pictures of many of them, sadly capped by the 20 pic limit.

The lesson, at the end of the day, is to learn to take joy in others’ success as well as your own. Everyone gets injured sometimes. And we all sometimes have bad races. But if you can take true joy in your friends’ triumphs, you’re a lot more likely to be happy and positive even when you’ve caught a bad break!

My warmest congrats to all who raced! And a fast recovery to those who, like me, got sidelined by an injury. I sound like a broken record at this point, I’m sure, but I’m exceptionally lucky to be part of such a wonderful community!! I love you folks!!

Extra shout outs to @pwellman7 who skillfully drove a few of us around so we could cheer at 4 different spots on the course, and to Lisa, Medhane, Lars, and Makai, who OTQed!!! Looking forward to watching you folks at the 2028 trials!!

This Sunday, Jordan will be making his marathon debut at CIM. After a successful career at UCSD, Jordan’s transitioned to post-collegiate racing with the LZAC team, and we’re excited to see him move up to the 26.2 distance after a solid training block with our squad. Here’s what he has to say:

“This training season has been my heaviest ever in terms of raw mileage and threshold work, and is straight on the heels of finishing up my collegiate racing career. CIM is going to be my first marathon, and my goal is to OTQ or at least put myself within striking distance of 2:16 as I continue to grow as a racer and as a person. I’m now tapering down with some biking and weight training to reduce impact and stay healthy in these last two weeks. Absolutely stoked to race with the boys next weekend and make much of Him through it all.”

Conquered the hilly switchbacks at the Tom Bache Balboa Park 4 miler! Nothing like testing the fitness on a course like this, and the men’s and women’s LZAC squads ran tough 💪
